Hello and Happy Friday!

So now that I am a DIYer, I will need to acquire various parts etc.

Upcoming items will be:

* Parts list for "B" service
* Various items to do with oil leak, so "rocker covers gaskets", "oil separator/breather box"
* Spark plugs - look to be a fairly straightforward item but still applies

So, I guess if I am going OEM it's easy enough.. call up "MB parts counter" and get quotes. But what if I want to find some non OEM parts?

I know Euro Car Parts has a bad rep for prices, is there another one stop shop..?

I have access to a "WIS" install now, so perhaps I can look up the OEM item there and then match on part number?

Any tips would be useful.

Cheers
Conor

If you think you are going to want a lot of parts joining the ‘other side’ entitles you to a 10% discount. Talk to your local dealer he might offer it anyway.

If the dealer has the parts on the shelf you are much more likely to get a discount I got a very good one for discs and pads front and back from MB Leicester

If you order from MB Grangemouth they give forum discounts if you mention the forum. Other than that ECP, GSF, eBay etc but do so with caution....
The harder it is to fit /the more important it is the more you should think about only fitting genuine.

In general parts from Bosch, Lemfoerder, Swag, Febi are generally ok.

Shop around. ECP/Car Parts 4U ok when a good offer is on. MB Grangemouth for your discount. MG/Smart of Newcastle online. Hard/big job, as LK go genuine.

The "other side"? Are you saying it is good to shop around then?

Who is GSF? I agree about complexity and aftermarket tradeoff.

Ok, thanks.

I think I will shop around and buy the bits that are priority. But then the lower priority I will be more of a bargain hunter and see what deals pop up over the next few months. I guess as long as I can get everything done before the end of September / October I will be good. I don't want to be out on the drive in the depths of winter :)

MB Bridgend have a massive E-Bay shop as do Newcastle MB

Grangemouth MB are excellent and offer good discounts to forum members, also next day delivery for £5

ECP / GSF for consumables and keep your eye out for discount codes

E-Bay as well if you have the part No.

GSF- German & Swedish Motor Factors.

It absolutely pays to shop around. Do your research. Look up OEM part numbers and look for their alternatives- the Bosch version of an MB branded AMF sensor might be £70 less for the same part.

Filters- ECP supply Mann filters which are OEM, they currently have a 50% off sale on.

Oils- Opie Oils are running a 15% sale on all orders over £75.

Spark plugs- again, many choices.

I find it pays to play the long game, buy in bulk to make subsequent services cheaper.

The ‘other side’ is the pet phrase we have on this forum for the Mercedes Owners Club website.
There is a section on here where you can join and one of the benefits is a 10% discount on all parts so if you are looking at buying a lot of genuine parts it may be worth your while

2CVs on the Paris-Dakar? ;)
A 2CV Sahara would be quite entertaining (and worth a fortune for a genuine one).
Engine in front, engine in back, 4WD and enough wheel travel to soak up any bumps would be huge fun off road!
