ML 350 2010
I recently bought a 2010 350 ML and have a question about the tyres. The tyres maybe have 12 to 18 months left on the milage we do, so i was looking to buy tyres one at a time over the next year as opposed to a huge bill all at once.
I noticed that the front tyres are 255/45/R19 & rear is 285/45/R19.
Is this correct and ok?
Should they all be the one size and if so which size is correct?
Why would the different sizes be fitted?
Thanks for any advice.

What does it say inside the fuel cap?

If it is a W166 then a 255/50 R19 107Y all round

If it is a W164 then a 255/50 R19 103W front and a 285/45R19 107W rear OR 255/50 R19 103W all round, depends which wheels are fitted

If you can get Dunlop SP 9000s at a reasonable price, they are very good all-rounders, particularly in the wet.

Don't really understand why Mercedes would specify wider tyres on the back, this is normally done to control tail-happy RWD cars, not understeering 4X4s.

Presumably they know what they're doing, though sometimes I wonder....

I'm assuming that before the notorious "Elk Test" failures, the 4-2's tyres were the same all round?

That was the A-Class, the Smart's have always had wider rear track and rubber

Ah! I stand corrected. But I well remember the pictures of a 4-2 lying on its tailgate with the bonnet pointing skyward.

Probably not during testing though.

Tyre sizes don't look correct to me. You shouldn't have different size tyres front and rear. Tyre size on an ML350 should be 255/50R19 W107 all round AFAIK. What wheels does the ML have?

Sorry but I have no idea what wheels it has, how can i find out? I had a look inside the fuel car door but it only gives tyre pressures. I shouldve said the car is W164 .

I knew it was a w164, the w166 came in 2012. Can you provide a photo of the tyres or you could go to www.alloywheelsdirect.com and look at the available wheels for the ML

My 420 has 255/50R19 W107 all round and the wife’s are 265/45R20 Y104.

Both sizes are available in the Uniroyal RS3 lineup. Very good in wet and dry.
