A mystery to me that is. When I was reversing off my drive this morning I noticed for the first time a red light on the rear bulkhead. I've searched the manual and googled to find out what it is but to no avail. Hopefully someone can tell me what it's meant to be telling me. Barely a trip goes by in the SL that doesn't prompt me to look in the handbook when I get back.

Is it Distronic, warning you that you're about to reverse into a wall?

I guess it could be, the screen is quite wide enough for more to be displayed either side of the square. I just listen to the beeps normally. I don't look over my shoulder to reverse so that's why I've never seen it before. This morning there was lots of rain on my door mirrors so I did.

It's the display for the rear parking sensors.

You are spot on. It's the display for parktronic system sensors. Park or reverse sensors to us mere mortals. I can't imagine ever looking at it! It's mentioned in one line on page 213 of the book.

The boot is so short, it's not exactly essential equipment. The bonnet however, goes on for a week - who knows where it ends?

No need to look over your shoulder, look in the mirror to see display.

“Stop when you hear the bang”. It’s an expensive approach to parking :D:p

IME you cant see the visual display when looking in the mirror or for that matter when turning and looking behind you as the wind deflector is in the way.

100% agreed.
The only time the display is visible is when the wind deflector is up or removed.

People are configured differently, long necks, stiff necks etc. The cars are made to a standard, one size rarely fits all.

Oi. Foul shot
It's made me realise I never look out of the rear window or even turn around when reversing. I guess that's what years of driving vans and coaches etc does for you.
I think you can actually see less when looking over your shoulder. But before reversing I do always have a look around before moving. As it happens I don't use the front display either. Modern reverse cameras are good but some people don't look around or in their mirrors any more, just rely on looking at the screen.
