"Stopping" during a trip  no, can't fathom that bit :D:p

I have water and travel sweets in the car, I fill up (if required) at the end of a trip so it's ready to go for the next one. I regularly do >4 hour jaunts but never stop on route. I want to either enjoy the drive or get to where I'm going not sit around
I don't particularly enjoy peeing whilst sat in the car....

Before you set off and after you arrive, if you need to stop mid journey time to see a doc :(

The only issue I have with electric is time to charge (on some models), range (on some models) and battery life.
I'd be ok with 300+ miles range and 20 minute recharge but sadly not enough manufacturers can offer that.

i would be happy about it when they become fiesta money, can go 300 miles and so long as i plug it in every night i wont need to think about it again for ten yrs. dont see that happening any time soon,if ever....

I don't pee to order. .
I pee when I need to (and that depends on the number of coffees and how recently!)

If toll road operators were smart they'd sink inductive charging tech into the roads, especially only in the left lane to encourage people to keep left. Charge as you drive.
Towns could do the same. Inductive charging loops at junctions and traffic lights and use congestion charges to pay for it.

There are other solutions to range than just bigger batteries.

That said battery tech is moving on rapidly. If the can sort out Iron-air batteries they have very high energy densities (over 4 times Li-ion).

and I've just read that an electric passenger plane with half the present payload would need over 30 times the best current energy density batteries to cross the Atlantic.
Way to go!

crossing the Atlantic in commercial passenger a/craft on batt some waaaaay off methinks, right now i would need to know the altitude over P.O.N.R required to glide back! before even dreaming of it.

A dyson car would be the biggest pile of grey plastic rubbish imaginable - I'm sure their marketing peeps would push the V10 digital motor... they could put one on each wheel and say how much better V10 digital is compare to V8 ICE

At least you would be able to get spares from the local tip.

Aah but coffee contains a lot of caffeine which is a bladder irritant.

carries 9 ! if they are going to replace 777 on Atlantic run it will be like a swarm of bees going over. i guess they can hang from something every 650 nm whilst they recharge as well. short hops for the elite i can just about see, us ,me ,anyway i cant see getting on them ,anyway i spent best of 40 yr getting on /off aircraft every 12/16 weeks s i avoid airports now.
It carries more for further than the first ICE aircraft...
;)
It's the first effort to prove its possible. It's not intended to be transatlantic. The tech will improve dramatically. There just needs to be the desire to make it happen.

it was reported that Mitsubishi sold alot of the outlander PHEV but over 80% of owners never used the electric side but bought it for tax reasons
Very True; and the tax cost of PHEV's is going up next year as well

Just wait until the majority is on them, then it will go through the roof!

Like everything else the government needs the money, they are not going to lose out when there are cash cows about. Having started this thread I think my next car will be petrol, maybe long term hydrogen might be the way to go, unless battery technology does something totally unforeseen.

Manufacturers. And their desire will come from regulation and consumer demand.
We've already seen the regulation part of the equation. Just needs the consumer to realise this is going to happen and get used to the idea.
The first generation of any product is not without flaws. The first diesel cars were slow, smelly and noisy. The first generation of aircraft could barely cross the channel. There are dozens of examples.
We are quite likely seeing the last generation who will be able to buy the cars we love so much - the big V8 and V12 sports cars and super saloons. Those of us who like the old cars will increasingly be legislated off the road. It's already happening. The Crit d'air zones in France have nearly cut off the route south to Bordeaux from the channel ports. There is just a small gap near Limoges. Even then you can only get to within about 50 miles of Bordeaux. The whole west coast west of the Gironde is a clean air zone as are the Alps and Savoie and Provence. The regulation forcing us into electric cars is already there.

Eventually we'll find it impossible to source fuel as demand falls.

Enjoy our big ICE cars while we can. They will go the same way as the dinosaur and there is little we can do about it.
