Hi Folks,

I took car for full valet yesterday and upon picking it up I had to adjust the rear view mirror as it wasnt in it's usual place and it was pointing towards the roof but I never thought anything of it at that time. I drove the car home and approximately 5-10 minutes after I had locked the car up at home the alarm went off of its own accord and repeatedly did so. I guessed that the alarm transmitter / receiver sensors are possibly located in the rear view mirror housing so I adjusted it a few times and reset it to my normal driving position by using the seat memory switch and all appeared well. I left the alarm armed overnight with no issues at all so I thought that my messing around had fixed it but no such luck !

Over the course of this morning the alarm has gone off a few times, typically after 10-15 minutes, both the siren and indicators are activated at the same time as it would do if the alarm was genuinely activated. Everything else is fine, central locking, door switches, boot switch, interior lights, car starts fine, drives fine it's just the alarm going off when it shouldn't !

I have never had this issue prior to yesterdays valet and I am thinking it is maybe when they have been cleaning the car interior, namely adjusting the position of the rear view mirror that this issue has arose or am I wrong ? Seems far too coincidental for it to be anything else, they didnt do any under arch cleaning as far as I am aware it was basically an inside and out clean and polish.

All thoughts / ideas / assistance much appreciated.

Thanks,

David.

A high pressure washer in the vent in the wing nearside will be enough to soak the alarm or front SAM. The alarm siren sits at the top at the rear, this will have probably failed, never use a pressure washer on a hot day on the 230, the water or steam goes up the wiring duct into the SAM and destroys it

Thanks Malcolm, I will check this out, funnily enough it has behaved all afternoon ! It was a hand wash and polish, no power washers, but it's worth noting for future reference.

Keep your eyes on any odd messages that may come up in the dash. ;)

Fault disappeared for 2 weeks then came back and found to be faulty sounder as diagnosed on STAR. Sounder just been replaced so hopefully no more random alarms !

Old post resurrection time. What does it mean if you also get random dash messages? As I do.
