Hi all, I am a new member with an odd problem on my CLK, quite simply I have warm air coming out drivers side only when turning on the air con. I have read many issues but non on the CLK as quite a few Mercedes member mention the duo valve issues but I am quite sure the W209 does not have these valves so I really am stumped so I am turning to you guys in the hope someone recognises this problem on my CLK. Thanks in advance for any help or advise given.

Hello and welcome

Do you have separate temperature controls for passenger and driver?

I’m thinking it’s a flap issue, which might be able to be diagnosed on star (Mercedes diagnostics)

There is a procedure to reset the flaps on the CLK, I had to do it when I had mine. You would need to search for it as I cannot remeber how it's done. Worth trying first as it's free.

Thank you all for your kind remarks and a nice welcome, maybe I should of specified that I did go through the reset procedure after finding it on another forum but maybe I need to take it to a Mercedes specialist to have it diagnosed on a Star. The guy who takes care of my lady is an ex Porsche specialist and understandably he is unsure, I didn't want a Mercedes stealer look at her as they charge stupid amounts of money when I get prices for my 63 and moreover you do not get value for money when it comes to diagnostic or servicing prices. Its not about penny pinching as you cannot have that view with these types of cars its more about value however, maybe it will just end up there or if someone in the N.E. England namely Newcastle who cares about what they do. But thanks again for your suggestions and I look forward to being a member of this great forum.

IT makes no difference that it is an AMG when it comes to the AC. It is the same as the optional climate control on other CLK. Off the top of my head it sounds very much like a flap stepper motor fault on the drivers side. Star refers to it as air blend flap, and with the machine you can motor the flap and watch the hall counter value to check if the flap is actually moving. Comparing the action to the other side will pinpoint the fault. Sadly stepper motor failure is common, usually undetectable other than with Star machine. Plastic drive cogs also can break, but these are easier to spot by a regular rhythmic clicking sound from behind the dashboard. The driver's side air blend motor can be replaced without removing the upper dash, just by stripping out the lower part and working in the footwell. The parking brake needs to be moved aside. It is still a job not for the feint of heart.

One wot I was doing the other day. This was a defroster flap motor failure, caused by a silly vent mounted cup holder. It broke, a bit went down the vent and wedged in the flap.

Thanks kindly and WOW that looks insane and one well beyond me I guess I am looking for a good Mercedes Independent in or around Newcastle Upon Tyne so if anyone can recommend one this would be a start as work like this carried out by the Stealers would be so expensive. So if anyone can point me in the direction of a recommended Indy.

Just went out today and now there seems to be a low pitched scream if that makes sense, maybe this has been on before and I did not hear it as I had the radio off today so it was apparent, so not sure if this means anything.

Does it sound like a squirty whistle? Like an astmatic mouse? Low refrigerant usually causes that

Sounds like you have a leak, or at least need a regas.

If it was leaking or indeed low gas would this account for air con working on the drivers side only ?

Hi all, I am a new member with an odd problem on my CLK, quite simply I have warm air coming out drivers side only when turning on the air con.

How warm is it? I've had my car since it was a few months old and I've never been happy with the a/c in that it never felt 'properly' cold, but it always seemed to just about cope almost as if it's adjusting itelf based on hot it is outside (the system in my car shouldn't do that - there's no sunshine sensor). It's been regassed several times and last year the condensor was replaced.

I happened to notice this year that right centre dash vent was more tepid than cold. On hot days I've taken to shutting the right vents and having the left one blowing at me. Checked the temps and got 8C from the left vent and 11C from the right - I was surprised at how low the difference was, it felt more than that.

To be honest I cant remember it ever being ice cold and wife just bought Peugeot 208 and hers is so cold and I know for sure mines not that cold. I am having mine re-gassed but I am convinced it wont fix it but I suppose I have to start somewhere, my left side centre vent does not quite hit me so thats even more frustrating, maybe Ive worn it out as its on all year round, I will report back as I am sure there are many CLK out there with this issue.

You don't wear out AC by using it all the time, you lose gas if you don't use it as the seals dry out and the gas escapes.
I can get 5' in mine quite easily - I have a slightly noisy fan but not worth investigating yet
