Hi Guys, the replacement pump on the SL500 has started knocking. Interesting thing is the knock is intermittent. Sometimes a real rattle, sometimes silent. Anybody any experience of this, is it trapped air?

Where did you source the pump and how long ago?

eBay purchase from Poland about 12mths ago. I did not exchange the old pump because I will buy a seal kit and rebuild it. My personal philosophy when approaching a challenge/technology I have no previous experience of is to start cheap - possibly f**k up, learn and skill up. The alternative is to spend big and still get it wrong

Spend £560 and buy a new pump from MB. It’s really not worth the risk to the entire system; 4 struts @ £700 each plus £2500 of valve blocks...

A bit under - back struts - "The original Mercedes part is £2612+VAT + fitting or, we can source an OE quality part from Germany for £1450 + VAT + fitting." (which is why mine went!!). Fronts about £1400 each.

MB do them cheaper than that! I'm sure I've seen prices of £880 for struts from MB.

OP - you could try a rodeo test (on Star) to see if it does it under any particular action.

There will be some room for negotiation, but not a lot. That was 6 months ago, my SL63 (not sure if there is a material difference) and the "quality part from Germany" bloke was an MB independent with a good reputation

I wouldn't be paying those prices for my R230. Reconditioned struts are getting towards the £500 point.

OEM new struts are available from AliExpress, for the 230 for ~£700 per corner.

Is the flow restrictor the one that sits on top of the pump with a 2 pin plug?
That’s it yes. Not available as a separate item though.

I've still got one on the old pump. I didn't exchange it because I'm going to rebuild it with a new seal kit. I'll try swapping the flow valve.

You know that you have to heat treat the end of the shaft to remove & refit the pulley..?

Think there was a member on here, (or maybe the ‘other’ Mb site) who was selling viton kits.

Or if he has none left may be able to give you a list of sizes/ suppliers.
