The agreement has been in place for a few years to allow tracing and issuing European speed fines. Unfortunately they have just unblocked the channels of communication. Think theres still an issue with Points. A few I know are now getting French speed tickets from 2017 & 18 to their uk address. And Le Mans 24 does wonders for their target quotas. I think an aston has the current record for highest speed clocked.
Oh, speaking of french penalties. remember to get your windscreen sticker for clean air before entering certain cities.

Could you offer the source of your information on the ‘agreement’ please.

As far as I was aware info was only passed between the UK and Europe regarding driver details was in the pursuance of serious crimes and that does not include speeding.

You can of course be ‘picked out’ at port of entry back into France if they keep on record.

Hello JDPE,
Sorry no source. It was in the MCN and various motorcycle mags few years ago. Then went quiet as no one was reporting getting tickets. I believe the fine in France is on a sliding scale to 1500 euros depending on your percentage over the speed limit inc 10% for errors. ie 58 in a 50 is 3kph over (50+5) and the late payment penalty can be nippy.

Drove from Trento to Trieste last Monday. On the first half of the journey on A roads almost every village had a speed camera.
They are almost non existent in the Dolomites.

I read on another forum that someone requested info under the freedom of information laws, specifically, how many requests the French Gendarmes have made to the DVLA for UK drivers details.

January 2019 - 3 requests made.
February 2019 - 42,824 requests made
March 2019 - 104,031 requests made!

Obviously a change in policy in France. Not sure that I can blame them, tbh...
Shame the UK Government hasn't got it's act together to do the same for European trangressors in this country.

Just a quick update after my 3200 miles trip to Split over 3 weeks.
Saw lots of fire damaged speed cameras in France. The only ones working between Calais & Lille, are the new overhead ones near Lille. Very easy to spot.
France, Belgium, & Holland now have average speed cameras on the motorways. Normally over about 5 to 10 miles in distance. They are either overhead or on a high pole at the side of the road, so easy to see.
No real change in Germany or Austria a few on the Autobahn, loads in villages.
Northern Italy have loads of new cameras in villages, most are like the old French box ones at the side of the road.
Slovenia & Croatia have a few on motorways & towns.
TomTom picked up about 80% of camera sites, Waze was just as good.
There was no live traffic on TomTom in Croatia, but there was on Waze.

Had mine up to 145MPH, then the wife woke up. Still haven't managed to get mine flat out, in Germany of course.
Better than I've managed in the 129. Only had that to 140. Not bad for an old timer though.
Did get an Audi S3 to 142 coming down the mountain on the Isle of Man. Now THAT was exciting.....

A great bike the 996 but not that comfortable if you are tall. I was on a VFR800 not quite flat out, speed recorded from the GPS.

Agreed, below 90 uncomfortable as hell as you feel like you're holding the front wheel spindle. I traded it for a R1100SS as I'd planned a big trip through Europe.
