Hi All I need some work done on my Mercedes C class CGI and have been looking at the website of SMB Autocentre, Cradley, West Midlands, the garage looks clean and tidy they are also showing photos of quality cars being serviced etc. Anyone had experience of them? Thanks in anticipation

No knowledge of that garage.
ACMS Walsall, & MSL Birmingham have good reports.

Also Andy Gayle Smethwick and WDM Cars Aldridge have good reviews. I have used Andy Gayle a few times. I suppose it depends where you live. Andy Gayle did a collect and return for me a couple of times - 50 mile round trip each time and left me an old W124 when it was a 2 day job -great fun..

Depending on your location you also have Mercland in Nuneaton. They are very good and the MD is a forum member.

How are you doing? What kind of work do you need done out of curiosity..? Your post piqued my interest as you have a CGI, which is rare - I have the 350 CGI.

Hi conor, just a transmission oil change needed. Been retired for quite a long time now but before I finished I worked for a local Mercedes franchise so have looked after our vehicles myself and it is just getting to much for me now and I am looking for a reputable garage to service them.

Interesting. I've decided to go down the DIY route too.. I just want to learn more about cars really.

Ive been thinking about doing my transmission and diff oil but feel like it will be a messy job.

Where are you based?

Yes it is a messy job especially if you are working on your back, and it's a job which has to be done properly else you could find yourself in trouble. The garage I mentioned was recommended to me by a friend who has work carried out there, but he is not a Merc owner. I am in Worcestershire and I cannot seem to find anywhere in this area I feel comfortable using to do my work.

The differential oil change is easy, . But just dont empty the old oil from diff until first you can see that the filler plug is removable. If the filler plug is stuck - i am not saying yours is , but if it is , then after you have draining off your old oil you wont be able to refill it with new differential gear oil. You need a pit to do this job easy because the car needs to be on level ground for filling up the new differential gear oil level after . Mercedes recommend oil changes for the diff to be done only after 30.000 to 50.000 miles. I think the reason for this is - may be a special gear oil in there to start with from new
