An old B-Class.
Bear in mind switches that would be on the door are on the centre console add L&R a/c control etc and what would be up at the mirror - I'd hazard a guess that my2 door has as many, if not more, switches/dials on the centre console and doors

Decades ago my new 1957 VW had 4 knobs, windscreen wipers, lights, choke (enrichment for carburettor) and ashtray.

.
Pretty much the same as the modern steering wheel controls ... I spent an hour at MS dealership the other day, waiting for the "Summer Health Check" so was obliged to look at GT, et al o_O

I know I'm a GOG but I still like the idea of all switches being in the same place, instead of being all over the shop. Struggling to move the seat back in the SL, Ms Peter had to point to the switch on the door (obviously accompanied by much eye rolling and sighing). I swear to god it wasn't there when I last looked.

A specific switch for a specific task is IMHO far better than trying to find a virtual switch on a touch screen as is the current trend with an iPad glued to the dash board.

Cheaper though... which is the way of the world.

I used to like that Mercedes had different cut outs depending upon what options were fitted and you didn’t get loads of switch blanks. I think they realised the cost of this so started standard cutouts with loads of blanks.

My 1961 Beatle had 3 knobs. Lights, wipers, & ashtray, choke was auto.

Exactly this, the cost at plant is unreal otherwise.

I remember being bored on a long journey in my old 211 and I counted all the switches, it was over 70
