Hi,
Not sure if this is the right section but does anybody know whether you can fit new rubber inserts into the smart vision blades or will it need the whole blade to be replaced?

I believe they are called "magic vision" by MB.

The washer water comes out of the edges of the blade....improves visibility while washing the windows (is actually a big improvement on the old system) and also saves the occupants getting a wash when the roof is open (uses less water) and uses less washer fluid overall.:)

Lots of little holes washing the screen ,then perhaps a vacuum next like a Karcher window vac.

Or what about a mini deionisation unit for the water.

I remember a Citroen I had years ago with a spray bar mounted on the wiper. Worked really well until winter when the whole lot froze solid and wouldn't defrost till spring....

They work very well but, I'm not looking forward to what they will cost (If I still have the car;))!

Had them on every car I've ever hired in the US going back to the late eighties.

I've hired cars many times in the USA (lived there for a while in the 90s) and have never seen what my SL has with the water coming out of the rubber of the blade.

This is the Valeo SmartVision system, it’s a cunning ploy to force drivers to pay yet more for their wiper blades than Halfords already charge.

And no you cannot source just the rubber inserts!

That was a different system with the washer pipe running to the blade and squirting onto it. This system has the wash fluid coming out of the blade itself.

So they've managed to re-engineer a new system to do the same job but make it more expensive and perform no better?

Yes, that's called progress by some and a waste of money by others!

Welcome to Valeo.

In fairness the performance is significantly better than standard aero blade and fluidic nozzle combo.

It's not just expensive wiper blades! The middle screenwash jet on my S204 gave up the ghost - there's a small ball bearing in the bottom, it came/blew out somehow so all the screenwash was being pumped out the bottom of that jet instead of up through the nozzles - no screenwash! Can you buy a replacement jet - NO! You have to buy the complete pipe plus 3 jets for £72 from MB Newcastle/eBay then about 3/4-1 hours work to remove the old one (including front NS wheel and part of wheel arch liner off) and fit the new one. I tried a "southern engineered" fix with a small screw and O ring where the ball used to be, but that hasn't lasted so I'll have to bite the expensive bullet.

Oh they are certainly better than the standard blades..

I wasn't talking about standard blades I meant the type they use in the US where the water comes out of the wiper arm. They both do the same job.
