Does anyone know at what point the oil level overfull warning would trigger?

I changed the oil at the weekend and appeared to drain between 8.5-9.0 lts.
For the last change which was 4000 miles ago I probably read the graduations on the container wrong and put 4.5l from each container in rather than 4.0l.

I used 2x 4.0l bottles this time so should be OK.

The sensors are sometimes wrong too, just get a dipstick and no need to guess.

I did dip it with the gearbox dipstick and it appeared to be in the correct zone e.g. 170mm from the bottom but I'll have to put some heatshrink over this area as it is currently in the spring section so hard to see accurately.

yr not wrong there... a cynic like me would suggest that benz (and maybe ALL makers ) are hell bent on obstructing all attempts by owners to do ANY maintenance themselfs. and i resent that and it will for sure be a factor in any,if any future vehicle purchases the same applies to adding any useful functions in an after purchase situation whist a considerable number of add ons are a plug and play ,on cars, benz anyway, its is more of plug and pay. i for one dont believe that benz ,sub 70k are any better made than ford, just that benz are very good at marketing a situation that really existed 25 yr ago . and not much now....quality. we keep falling for it.
