....and here is what they said. They resolutely denied that they had a more recent version. Apparently they have to wait for MB to send them out the disc, and it has not arrived yet. I pressed him on why it seems to be widely available "out there" but he simply repeated that he didn't have it so there was nothing more he can do. And it seems, nothing more I can do although I did get him to agree to email me when it becomes available . Thanks to all for the support and info

Sounds like rubbish to me but I’ll tag @Alfie to see if he has a view? I think it was he that said, somewhere on this forum, that v13 was due to be released in November 2018!

thanks for sharing, I'm reading it but don't believe it (not for 5.5 I think that should be 14 and at a stretch 15 unless they moved to more than one a year... )

I concur with JDPEclassUK. I have a 2018 C class showing V16. Screenshot of my Mercedes me below.

well that's a great naming convention I'm seeing (sounds like somethings muddled as if we needed Mercedes to add more confusion....)

NTG 5.5 Audio 20 is on v16 Part number: A213 906 07 07
NTG 5.5 Comand is on v14 E class w213

A-Class uses the newer NTG 6.0 (MBUX)
next-gen system is NTG 7.0 is an enhanced version of NTG 6.0

Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system, with its natural voice input and clever augmented-reality capability, will also allow owners to remotely unlock certain functions after they've bought the car. Owners of the latest-generation A B and GLE will be able to add things like digital radio, smartphone mirroring, and factory navigation once they've actually taken delivery of their car.

Mercedes-Benz makes it all sound very simple, with owners able to order the upgrade through the Mercedes Me store application, before activating the option (read: paying) online.

So I have just had my second (B) service and emboldened by posts here I tried to make very sure that the MB main dealer did in fact carry out my free satnav update. Eventually someone came out and said that they had not because 'they had checked and there had been no significant update, or none at all, since my first update 12 months ago and so there was no point". I am not entirely sure I believe that.....Is there any way I can check whether I have the most recent satnav version?

I had exactly the same conversation.

I received the car back they said the update had been carried out, on checking it had exactly the same version it went in with.

I checked with Comand our forum sponsors and there were newer versions.

I went back to dealership and it transpires that if you want the very latest they have to download it to a memory stick and upload into the car.

You have to ask for this as apparently connecting to the Mercedes system only offers older versions.

The main dealership do not get offered the very latest version as can be purchased from Comand Online.

To be fair that’s how I get my non automatic updates. My UK maps update themselves, but if I want the rest of Europe I go to the Mercedes me portal and download them to a memory stick. The car detects them when I stick it in on start up. I think there was 27gb of them the first time I did it, took absolutely ages to update the car.

A150 manual, smart forTwo, W205 AMG line premium plus.
I think there is some very poor advice coming from dealers.

Even if they download the new version they have to generate a PIN code for it so they have the ability to generate the code already.

NTG 5*2 latest version (as at today) is V13 2019. We have had it for ages.

The dealership could only give me v12 they could not get v13, as my update was free I went for that but in future I will use your company for navigation etc.

I decided to follow this up with MB Customer Service; here is their reply:

"I can confirm that there is a V13.0 Navigation update for your car, however, our Mercedes-Benz Retailers are still currently working through getting the updates downloaded and ready to install and I can advise that it is possible that some customer’s updates will have been done.

After speaking with the service department, it appears they are having technical difficulties getting the updates downloaded and installed, but are working to resolve this as soon as possible"
.

Really? Not what the dealership told me. A bit hard to believe that a main dealer could not download some software. Ho hum

When V13 had already been available for a couple months, last December, my car was serviced and I asked to get the Sat Nav updated. After picking the car up, I was told it had been updated to the latest version but it was only updated from V11 to V12. I questioned why V13 was not installed, which surprised them as they first claimed it was not out yet, and was then told that V13 still didn't show all the new m/ways and junctions that were completed in our area 2 years previous. They said a new version would be out soon with the new roads on it and I should wait for that. Plus, they would contact me within the next month or two to arrange it. No apology for lying to me in the first place, as they did the year before when they installed V11 even though V12 had been out for over 3 months.

Obviously I know when I'm being fobbed off but decided to wait for the phone call I knew I would never get. In May this year, I decided I was not waiting any longer and booked the car in again. This time V13 was installed, even though by now it's already almost a year out of date. But the worst part of it is, all the new roads and junctions they told me were not on V13, actually are all there. Lied to again by a Mercedes dealer!

First chance I get, I'm booking the SLC into COMAND to have Android Auto installed and will use my TomTom in the C Class. Dealing with Mercedes is not worth the hassle and even when you get updates done, the're already months out of date. At least with Android & the TomTom, they will always be up to date and more accurate.

There's a saying that you can tell when Politicians are lying because their lips are moving. Perhaps that should also include Mercedes dealership staff

So here is the update on this saga. I contacted MB Customer Service (a bit of a tautology actually) who confirmed that v13 is available but that "some dealers may not have it yet". They confirmed that my local dealer (Temple Fortune in London) would contact me in 2 weeks. Time flies etc....So I call back Customer Service who assure me that they will speak to dealer and get a response. One week further on, I get an email from dealer asking what it is all about. Dealer now says that technician is on a course (no doubt learning how to download files) and can't say anything till next week. This is becoming quite entertaining in a strange sort of way

I get a warm glow when I bother to write stuff and no one bothers to believe me....

Merc mapping for 2018-19 was written to disc in November 2017

As tomtom issue their big map update around feb / mar, this means by the time you get to buy "the very latest maps" - often the earliest you find next years map update is available is in August. So at the very best they are already 19 months old

If you buy in july, its highly unlikely you get next years, but very likely ones just ending life cycle that are 30 months behind the curve (as in nearly 3 years out of date)

Regarding the TomTom maps, maybe the old TomToms worked like this but the latest ones that you don't even connect to your computer are very different. I've seen new roads built & they appear on the next map update within 3 to 6 months.
You don't buy a map every year anymore as the maps/speed cameras/live traffic are all updated for free.
The maps are updated 4 times a year through WiFi and are never years out of date.

I believe v13 was realeased in November 2018 so they have no excuse other than, sadly, deliberate deceit to avoid what presumably costs them something.

I thought the first 3 years were included in the car purchase

It is with COMAND, buy they don't want a car taking up time in a workbay that they're not getting paid for so would rather not do it if they can get away with it.

Yes, the first 3 years are free to me. But presumably the dealer gets paid by MB "central" don't they? After all, I didn't buy the car from this dealer. If they have to do the update but get absolutely nothing for it I can certainly understand their reluctance.....although that won't stop me hassling them to do it!

they are very similar…. if have a wifi tomtom its a joke….
FYI if you forget to update your tomtom for life mapping within a year, they cut you off - its gets very little publicity but if you rant they will re enable updates

I've had it 18 months they appear to do one big update a year, I expected quarterly but its a myth, it updated when I first got it (to the previous release) and it did another update in july 2018 (to that years release) then nothing till a year later. On my iPhone it seemed to do two a year but that now seems to have dropped back to 9 month intervals.

I've also got a posh (£750) garmin that does updates about twice a year,

if we want Mercedes to notice there were changes they have a pdf form to complete and send to NL and then they ignore it properly... when they requested I fill one out they were far too helpful to send with their reply and to asked me to go to my dealer … one major dealership that's at the premier end of service and competence for 30 plus years had never heard of it …. but did email one back in 24 hours, the other dealer took 3 months and an escalation to head office before they found a copy (a blank PDF form is below)

"...I would like to ask you to visit your local Mercedes-Benz Retailer and ask them to provide you with a 'Satellite Navigation Feedback Form'. If you could then fill this out with the necessary alterations mentioned in the manner dictated on the form I can then ensure this is passed to the relevant Technical Department inside Mercedes-Benz"

I sent 6 separate issues back one per form (they complained about me returning them asking what I expected them to do with them !) the next year maps fixed 3,

missing one that is on a major route is still unfixed 3 years on

another is where a one way road has been reversed under a railway bridge, now basically creating a 1/2 mile diameter roundabout that again is not updated file-36.jpeg
