No. I was on about the icarsoft diagnostics scanner from LJM. As far as the starter motor is concerned I would get a refurbished one from Ebay for £40. The scanner was originally £136 from LJM Car diagnostics. Order placed on Monday or Tuesday this week. For some reason now arriving from Hong kong via Dhl.

If you are able to read the codes then what is the plan? With the money and time spent already wouldn't employing the help of a specialists make sense?

I think Neil would like to get the starter motor sorted so he can get it turning over before the Great Cole is summoned.... ( is this done with a circle of people chanting at midnight in a forest clearing? )

I honestly have a very tight budget. The money has already run out, I have had to take out a credit card to pay for about £1000 of parts and gear. But now it’s too late to stop. I have to continue until it passes the Mot. Then I will use it to get back the money I know owe people and companies and after that money for my next Mercedes Benz. Another newer C220 CDI estate.

This is a real brain fogger! And almost a laugh a minute!

You've run out of money, yet you want to buy another breaker bar when you've already got the engine 'unseized'?
You've bought an iCarsoft scanner but unsure of its uses or benefits?
You've not bought a starter motor, yet you have already rightly diagnosed that this is the item most needed to test the engine?
And, without any money, you're looking to buy yet another Mercedes?
And you were an engineer on submarines?

Think I'll stick to surface ships!

The starter motor is Out!!! And a quick test outside the car with a 12volt supply has confirmed it is Faulty!!!! From MY perspective that is GOOD news. I did not know there was an in line fuse to the starter motor?!! So either I refurbish mine or buy another one. Opinions?!!
That was a Swine to get out!!!!!

Buy refurb and give your old one back as the core.

The only fuse on that line is a big one that also supplies the alternator etc. If you have 12v at the wire. Then it's not blown.

How difficult/easy are they to refurbish?

After all your tribulations, I would let somebody else do it.

Imagine having to replace it 4 or 5 times to get it right.

Not too hard though. But your windings are probably burnt out and it's porbbakt not going to be straightforward
