Hi, I'm new to the forums but am in need of some advice due to my Merc not wanting to cool itself...
I recently changed the thermostat and did a coolant flush as it's on 96k with the hopes that the thermostat would fix my problem.. The fan still doesn't work even with the AC on full (Only cold air comes out if the vents).
I'm in a sticky situation as my car hasn't been used for a couple of years so doesn't have an MOT or tax.
Does anyone have any advice on what this issue might be?
Thanks in advance

A bit more detail on the symptoms might be useful?
For example does it lose water, are the hoses rock hard when running, do you get bubbles in the header tank?

I've had a few issues trying to reply but none of the symptoms you've mentioned are evident.. I've got a hunch that is the fan control module, so I need to source one reliably.

I have since noticed that my w202 keeps draining the battery with the alarm/hazard lights... :'( any advice on that?

The alarms go bad and you could just disconnect the alarm siren. I believe it is situated behind the nearside front wheel arch liner.
Good luck with this and the overheating.

you could replace / clean out the duo-valve, although that's more for non-cabin heating, not engine overheating..

Has it ever had K-Seal or similar in the cooling system? That really screws things up.

My main concern is that I'm going to lose out on a key saftey feature but also that the hazards keep blinking which is the ultimate issue for the battery drain.
I hope it isnt a problem with the loom

I'm thinking about sending it off to a merc specialist in tonbridge. Not looking forward to the repair bill though :'(

By 99 the loom issues were pretty much sorted. It was 93-95/6 the loom issues were rife.

So, its been a long time but i thought id update anyone as to my situation.
The cooling problem was resolved by a thermostat and coolant temp sensor replacement aswell as a full system flush.

Secondly
My alarm keeps activating without noise because i have a bad siren. The batteries corrode and leak onto the sirens chipboard and in turn causes it to fail.

Both were relatively easy fixes and i am now on the road.... finally!

Still need to do some work to the body but shes a beauty!

Thanks for your replies (y)

[UPDATE]
I fear i have a head gasket problem as im loosing coolant, however i was told by a Mercedes specialist that it is very rare for the m112 to suffer a head gasket failures?!.. (any contradictions)

Id like to know if anyone has ever done the gasket on this type of engine and if so how much did it cost/can you refer?

Thanks in advanced

I don't think I've heard of any one having a head gasket failure on an m112/m113 engine.
Add some UV dye to the coolant system, run it for a day or two then go out with a UV torch and look for the dye (do it at night).
Our E240 was losing water - it was a cracked radiator. It's also not unheard of for a water pump to leak but for the coolant to evaporate quickly meaning there's no sign of a leak.
Finally check for wet carpets - heater matrix leaks are very good at hiding.

LK has probably put his finger on it with the water pump, a known weakness.
