Yesterday I thought I would clean the Funbus out. It’s had fairly heavy usage over the last month or so- usual to-ing and fro-ing, a week away with the kids in the caravan (6 seats filled) and a long weekend away (5 seats filled).

Well. I started at 1330..........

4 bowls of hot water with Persil in later, all carpets, seats (fronts, backs, undersides, down the sides) and trim was clean and actually black again- as was the water in the bowl!

A bin bag was half filled with rubbish from under the middle and rear rows of seats. The vacuum cleaner, a Henry was almost burnt out trying to suck up crumbs, rubbish and God only knows what else from awkward spots like the sides of seat runners.

€1.00 and £0.21 recovered from previous owners. I also found that I have a collapsible spare wheel (I just thought it was knackered so had carried the old one out of the 211!) and a folding cargo/ dog net in the tool bay- this explains why what I thought were coat hooks are so rubbish- they’re to clip the net to.

Trick discovered- using one of those fingernail scraper tools and a damp cloth over the top, held together it fits very neatly between trim panels to remove the awkward bits of cack that one can never seem to attack, without running the risk of scratching anything.

Kids car seats came out. Middle child had spilt Coca Cola in hers two weeks ago apparently. Who would’ve thought that it starts to smell very strongly of fish in that time? Well, it does... so the seats were brought into the kitchen, stripped to the frames, upholstery in the wash and the bare frames antibacced then scrubbed.

Car was finished at 1800hrs. Car seats at 2330hrs by the time they were fully dry.

All that and I’ve still got the outside to wash and wax!
You should have done a thread with pics buddy ! Top job though :D

Did quick clean of the inside of the CLK again and checked some fluid levels . Upped the tyre pressures for those smooth French motorways .
Got a drive to the South of France coming up , about 17 days total with 2 separate gites booked .First gite is East of Cahors/Montaban The second gite is down near the Ardeche valley where we haven't seen yet , meant to be spectacular scenery .
Hopefully going to cross the Milau bridge this time which has been on the list for a few years .
Return journey from the Ardeche we have 3 days to fill , so may drive Mount Ventoux which is only an hour or so East of where we are staying . Should be some decent looking roof down roads on the edge of the Alps there before swinging North again and back to Calais .

I'd leave Mount Ventoux till next time and go in mid July - the area is rich with lavender and that's when it's at its best - spectacular.

Folded the split rear seats and did a B&Q run to pick up some 2m lengths of prepared 4"x2" to refurbish the porch.
A car blanket draped over the folded down seats "just in case" and the saloon becomes almost as useful as a wagon.

VW Scirocco. The Quattro, E350 CDi Blue Efficiency Sport Coupe, now both gone

Tbh John, I think the way that the bumper's been gouged that these do-da's would just have been ripped off.
You can't see to well in the photo's but the gouges are at least 2-3mm deep. No sticky pad would ever stand up to that level of abuse.

I think I'll need to try and make some sort of non slip surface for the ramps to stop them sliding again.

Attach webbing material to the bottom rung. Make sure it's long enough to go under the rear wheels when the front wheels touch the ramp. The weight of the rear wheels on the webbing stops the ramp moving.

Cursed the 230 as it came up with a new fault - "Close boot lid" even though it's firmly shut.

How did you cope with the heat !!. I washed mine down in the morning of Saturday and spent most of the afternoon turning into liquid !! Ended up drinking about 2 litres of water !:)
It wasn’t hot- about 19 C, and I was in shorts and flip flops anyway.

Passed the MOT today. Hooray:D:D

Strange advisory, "Lights won't turn off when engine running". That's the way they are set up!!! Perhaps I should disable the function next time.
As always "Undertrays fitted" An ar@e covering advisory.

I also got Rear springs corroded again. First time I got this was 3 years ago at MB and they looked like someone had brushed against them with some lipstick. Now they are starting to look quite bad. Would you change them now, or get another winters worth of salt on them before fitting new in the spring?
