Any REAL insurance discount available if I fit a Tracker?

Hi all.

I am thinking of fitting a Tracker to the SL but they really aren't cheap. £400 installation plus £200 for a year's subscription. Probably worth the expense if it's ever stolen and quickly recovered but...

Does anyone have any experience of getting a real discount in insurance having had one fitted? I am not talking about a company which is £200 more than the market rate offering £50 off. I mean a real discount which would begin to make the business case for shelling out nigh on £600 for a Tracker, on a car I'm likely to keep for many years?

I suppose the start point is to use someone like confused.com or comparethemarket.com and fill in your details as they are, get all the quotes and then go back in and change the one item - is a tracker fitted. That should give you a direct answer for most of the insurers. Alternatively, ask one of the Forum supporters that sell insurance for a quote..

I tried them when I got my car in 2017 - they were more expensive than most of the others and demanded a tracker. I ended up using MB insurance who were (and still are ) cheap and did not want a tracker!

Not sure I want my car back if it gets taken and thrashed ........

Are they Thatcham approved? Most insurers insist on Thatcham approval.

If I was going to protect my car, I'd get the Autowatch Ghost.
