Morning All,

Just picked up a 2004 W203 270CDI Auto as my first Mercedes, also my first automatic car. i wanted to go for something that has the power and economy of a larger capacity diesel without the headaches of the dreaded DPFs so this seems like a good bet. read plenty on the reliability of these cars and the potential for tuning them as well (more on that later).

previous cars include plenty of VAG diesels and Japanese petrol cars, my last car being an EP3 Civic type r which has to go due to a change in a commute, me missing the torque of a diesel and being sick to death of spending most of my time in petrol stations.

plenty of my mates have mercs including some ridiculously tuned old diesels and a few AMG examples they definitely rubbed of on me when it came to my new car thoughts.

first plan of action for my car is an Auto box service and some new wheels as the ones i currently have are not to my taste. then look at a remap + decat.

hope to have some good discussions with you all.

Hi all here's a couple of pictures of the new car, bit rough around the edges trim wise. The passenger side door trim has a scratch and the b piller cap thing is bubbling and starting to rust but looking at getting those bits replaced from ebay. Also looking for some new alloys. Some of the current ones definately need a refurb

Looks in good shape for a 04 plate, the IL5 is a great engine many on here have owned them both powerful and frugal

Ehh, you mention decat. Is this wise ? My understanding is that this will cause an automatic MOT fail.

My understanding is that depending on the year of manufacture etc its just a visual inspection and a soot test. Something I believe this thing would fly through. I don't think they measure emissions on diesels either.

If I'm incorrect I welcome correct replies. As long as you don't replace the cats with custom pipework and just remove the inards you should be OK.

Yeah it's seems a great engine. My parents have the same engine in their hymer motor home and they have no complaints at All.
