So I've found a car, put a refundable holding deposit on it and going to view it Saturday.
I'll post pics and an update if I decide this is the one.

I thought I would update the insurance quotes I found at the end of July when I first decided to change cars. Getting quotes from Money Supermarket on 26th July, LV came out head and shoulders the cheapest and for a stock 2014 E63 Biturbo I was quoted £420. This rose to £520 ish when adding a map, non oem alloys, lowering springs and an exhaust modification on the car I was going to view. I thought this all good value.

Fast forward to today and how times have changed. It may only be 7 weeks later, but LV are nowhere to be seen on Money Supermarket. I went onto LV's website, filled in the quotation folm and they threw out a figure of £550 without modifications:eek:
What happened? I got 7 weeks older and its an extra £130? I swear insurance is a huge fiddle.

Anyway, the cheapest quote came from everyone's favourite (not) Hastings Essential at £393 without windscreen cover:(. Hastings Direct was £429 inc windscreen cover.

I had the E55 insured at Hastings for 2 years but fortunately for me, never made any claim.
Now I won't touch them after reading countless poor reviews of them, and their other companies in other names (Peoples Choice and Insure pink to name two)

Also, John here isn't enamoured with Hastings either

So scrolling down the evering more expensive list, I have settled on Axa as the most likely at £541 although as its so close to LV, I may go that route.

In the meantime, after Saturday, I'll know for sure whether this is the car for me and will visit A-Plan brokers to see if they can match or beat Axa with a decent company.
Having a car close to £30k is too much to risk with a company that messes about should the worst happen.

I've discounted Adrian Flux for reasons I wrote about long ago that didn't affect me but questioned their integrity. Aviva and Direct Line are both out for not being competitive.
Any I should try before next week?

Oh, the most expensive quote was £11,082 from BG Insurance whoever they are:rolleyes:

We’ve had both cars with LV for some time. The renewal quotes are so reasonable that I haven’t bothered to check elsewhere. I thought the increase when I swapped the C207 for the GLC43 was very reasonable considering the cost of the new car.

I insure through Chris Knott (forum supporter), they seem pretty competitive (although they struggle to compete with basic policies such as no courtesy car, no glass cover, etc,).

^ I had a quote sometime back for the E55 from Chris Knott.
Unfortunately not competitive at all.

Most of these sites are owned by Insurance Companies, so I suspect the figure they produce depends on who owns the site

Mine was with Privilege for a while Roger when it was relatively standard. They were happy to accept mods to it at a very reasonable price until I started to go over the top with power increases. I think they allowed around a 20% increase in power but couldn't help me after that.

I then went with A Plan but they're possibly not the best for a standard car. I'm still with them currently, though I may be changing soon on the new one...

Use a different browser each search (Waterfox/Chrome/IE/Safari/FireFox/Opera - built in VPN)

AFAIK comparison sites are not allowed to share user data (GDPR) so you can clear all cookies, use another browser and keep looking, each time you'll appear as a new customer.

I use confused, always been cheapest for me.

You can also be 'creative' but broadly honest with your occupation.

Remember you have 14 day cooling off period.

I am with Admiral, but have quite a few less horses than either of your steeds.
A Plan would be my go to actual broker, so I'd agree to take your AXA number to them.

Do watch for all the usual inner limits, restrictions though such as

Policy excess can vary for w/s, w/s repair, own damage vs TP claim (some now add one) and of course young driver excess (shouldn't both you though Roger ;))
Admin charges for anything and everything (hate those)
ANY form of mod (even tints, winter tyres, although you're in Poole...)
Courtesy car period and qualifying period
Parking off street, on street, on drive, in garage
Any and all security
Discounts if you take LX or breakdown policies with them (and then what that doesn't cover)
Discounts for advanced driving or some club memberships
NCD rules on claims - even non fault
Repairer network and standards (some are remote and low to subsidise cheap premiums)

I could go on, but you get the gist and know most of it.

Waiting for the photos.....:geek:

PS Are you going to consider putting a tracker or the likes on it?
