IS CGI blueEFFICIENCY a good choice for a second hand car?

I have has 3 Mercedes and I have seen another that I like the look of. It has CGI Blue efficiency and not knowing about this, I am asking your oppinion,

So I think you’re looking at an S212, with an M271 engine.
The M271 engine can be problematic with stretched timing chains and weak sprockets unless proactively maintained.
Like everything else when you research you’ll only find the horror stories and not the vast majority of customers who’ve had no issues. Worth at least opening your mind though.
I’d also query the power output to push a big S212 to be honest personally

As JL above - test drive the car it might feel ok with just the driver on board but woefully underpowered semi or fully laden, depends on the type of use. Reminds me of the MK1 escort 1100 a great car when driven one up but utterly hopeless when loaded with more weight

At the moment I have a 2005 E200 S211 Estate, which pulls fine loaded. Would the other one be better or worse?

Why not test drive it yourself as its all relative and may depend on driving style. On here youll get some who have 5.0 v8s who'll think its pathetic and some like me with 0-60 in 15s old diesels who think its faster than enough. A lot of faster cars can feel slower and vice versa depending on power curve...my experience would suggest the newer one will be out and out faster but to keep economy up itll have a narrower power band and flatspots where there is almost zero power in the rev range. So if you dont floor it all the time or like it to accelerate without changing down it might feel slower and like it needs to be ragged more to you despite being faster in a drag race if you use accelerator as a binary switch...

Thank ou for the replies. I just use a car to go from A to B and carry stuff. Doesn't have to travel fast. I just wondered if this was a good or problimatic engine. Thanks again, Brian

Not knowing what the engine spec is in comparison to your existing car it’s probably better to compare the bhp of each engine and then test drive the newer car to see if it meets your needs.

If you get the VIN number we can confirm which engine is fitted.
If it's an M271 it will be the same family as your existing car's engine - the M271.
If you Google M271 there is a lot of information on the web detailing issues with timing chains and camshaft sprockets.

Apart from the previously mentioned timing chain and camshaft gears like all direct injection engines it will suffer from carbon build up in the inlet tract and the back of the inlet valves. Depending on how many miles it's done and how its been driven it may show up sooner or later.

Sorry can't help you there, but I expect any combustion will leave deposits to a greater or lesser extent without the cleaning effect of petrol washing over the back of the valves.
