E220 Convertible 2016
Hi everyone - I'm new to the forum and a new owner of a E220 convertible 16 plate and i've noticed some very slight indentations/creases when the roof is up, mirrored on both sides, clearly caused by the folds.

Nothing major, I can live with it, but it's the only slight imperfections on an otherwise great car, and I've noticed other E220 convertibles don't have them!

Wondered whether the simple answer is just to leave it up over the next few months (won't be an issue now as it's nearly October) so it gets taut, or I should consider valet/steam etc? Has a year warranty but because it's not a mechanical defect presume it's not covered. Thanks in advance.

You could try dampening the area then carefully using a hairdryer to dry it out and shrink the fabric.

Have you tried washing and then reproofing the top?
This may tighten the fabric as well as ensuring its weatherproofing.

I have a MX5 and a few months ago I scrubbed my soft top to make sure it was really clean, then after it had dried I proofed it, which also highlighted the colour. The fabric seemed much tighter afterwards when the top was up.
I am laying it up during the winter, and will leave the top up, but not completely 'home', and covered with a sheet to keep away any dust (I have a garage).

Did something similar to Umble to my 968 cab a couple of months ago - painted the roof with Renovo hood shampoo and a 2" foam brush, left it to soak in for a while then scrubbed it with a mist of water and a nailbrush, then hosed and hosed and hosed the roof, took a long while before the water coming off the roof was suds free. Let it completely dry the put a coat of Renovo proofer on. Roof came up really well (it's blue) and I think it also tightened the fabric.

Hello and welcome

We had a member on here with a problem caused by some plastic bits in the roof that caused a drop if I remember correctly.

Yes i read it - pretty sure it's not that. Roof is fine apart from the S shape indentations on both sides. Will take a pic and post later. Thanks!

Uploaded twice for some reason - but you can see the indentations. Identical on both sides of the roof and correspond to how the material folds when roof closed.

Fair enough! Only reason I asked was because I've seen one's older than mine that look immaculate. Presume they've had them re-coloured etc.

Mine has been recoloured with Renovo , but it won't shift the folding creases
