Hi All,
Well it's been a while since I've posted. I've gotten rid of my C220 estate and have bought a C220 Sport Coupe. I've been lovingly driving it for the past year and it's been bliss. I feel at one with how the car reacts and feels when I drive. Then a week ago my auto box got 'stuck in lockdown'. My local mechanic (who is a good one) put his diagnostic tool on to my Merc and the following two codes came up: P2203 and P220A!! See pic.

Any help as to best way forward before I part with wads of cash?

Cheers,
Devan

as expected, would be no chance just to change speed sensor ? and i suppose it then has to be "educated " by benz at yet another cost. ?

Cheers AJ. This is very informative. I'll now need to make the time to start the investigation and repairs. A quick question? Does driving the car with this fault "harm" the gearbox at all?

frankly. dont know ,but if its in limp or otherwise playing up ,my view, the less you run around and sooner you fix it ,the less likely further damage possibilities. me ,i would be getting something done about it and running something else in the meantime. on a related issue on another car ,my w168 170cdi auto. i had F fault come up,put on my diagnostics ,gear shift faulty.now i cleared it and found i could most of the time drive in a manner that prevented it, the F fault reappearing, however gear changes were not smooth and ,having a spare i changed it within three days and i have not seen the issue since.

Depending on your level of skill - and interest - it is a diy job.
There is a sticky under the 'Engine, Drivetrain' section that gives all the details with photos -
Replacing Conductor Plate in 722.6 Autobox

Even if you choose to get a mechanic to do the grunt work, the sticky might help him if he hasn't done that particular job before.

I've only had it in lock up whilst driving. Slowed down at a round about and it went into third then would not change up when the revs hit 3k. The manual lock up/lock down(?) did nothing. This has now happened twice and then my mechanic put his diagnostic on it and found the fault in my original post. I'll need to get it done either way.

Thanks again for all your help.

As it's an electronic fault it probably will not cause any damage. Still best to get it sorted sooner rather than later
