Hi folks
We have just taken the plunge and ordered the E-class AMG line hybrid, but already a few disappointments. The SE comes with leather seats as standard, the AMG Line comes with a mixture of cloth and plastic or 'artificial leather'.

We have ordered a selenite grey vehicle and specified leather seats but.... We have been told we can only have the choice of black or an awful brown?? Not happy about that and I queried a Designio option but I was told this cannot be done!

Gripe number two
NO garage door opening feature??? She who must be obeyed is not happy.

I have tried researching this hybrid feature as much as possible and fingers crossed it is all it is hyped up to be.

Any thoughts regarding my gripes please?

regards
John

Hello and welcome

I’d have the SE and real leather and more comfortable wheels/tyres

Garage door opener - get a fob instead as it’s one less bit of tech not to work in the car. I had it in my 911 and almost never used it (used my fob instead)

I think MB UK are really missing a trick when it comes to interior colours. Their website shows lovely illustrations of cars with light coloured interiors which you can't actually order in the UK. A friend of ours ordered a new B-Class - interior colour choices? Black or... that was it. I did play with the configurator the other day, looking at an E300d All-terrain - black, funny dark tan or macchiato beige. I could live with the macchiato, I think.

Hopefully I will try to answer all the above replies in the one post, and thanks for the responses.

I guess Mercedes-Benz must know what they are doing, but gone are the days when we could order individual choices.

Garage door opener.... I guess it is horses for courses. We still have our 2004 highly specced E-class and yes that has this door opener and it has NEVER failed and my wife loves this feature, but NOPE, no longer available.

SE or AMG Line? The AMG Line to me looks the nicer vehicle and yes, it is the more expensive item but with the 300DE we cannot even have Macchio beige, although we would prefer a nice light grey. The E400 AMG Line can have it, the All terrain can have it and the E53 and E63 can have it????? What a sad state of affairs.

I agree about the Se having the more comfortable wheels but we have specced the nice suspension option on our vehicle, but I am no fan of wide low profile tyres

This car is being bought solely for my wife and yup, we have another gripe :)

Our 2004 vehicle has the sliding floor feature, this was an option only seen on a few vehicles before being withdrawn but what a feature. When that floor was extended, I could easily bounce up and down on it and I weigh 17stone (tall and moderately built) My wife would simply extend the floor, plonk her shopping on it, then press a button for the floor to move back into the car. A great feature that once again never failed :)

Now owning one car for fifteen years, we have had some niggles but whilst I might come across as a moaner, we are both huge fans of this marque.

has anyone had the chance to drive the latest hybrid, or heard any reports about this vehicle? Strange that the estate cannot have the petrol hybrid but it is only available for the saloon :)

It is going to be a huge, huge wrench to sell our current E-class but life goes on :)

Just noticed that one of you folks own a hybrid, we will have to compare notes :)

It is just what Hans and Fritz have decided you are allowed to have on your car.

Personally I would buy an E400 or 220d, hybrids are scary propositions and never seem to live up to expectations

I don't quite understand what MB are up to. If you go on the German site and build an E class, there are sooo many more options. Some I can kind of see an argument to as although not trivial, the UK RHD market is pretty small compared to the global LHD market, so for "sided" components which may not have many takers, you could argue it's not cost effective to maintain a large number of options, especially when you consider they have to maintain spares stock for many years. However things like ventilated front seats and not available in the UK, but also generic between LHD and RHD models, so I really don't understand why not an option.

But they are not necessarily the percentage of the world's population that are buying new Mercedes...

As long as customers continue to place orders and accept the compromises imposed upon them, they (MB in this case) will continue to treat their "Treasure Island" customers as the cash cows they have done for a long time! No-One should have to make compromises on the purchase of a new vehicle of that class, it should tick ALL your boxes and some, if MB can't make the grade they should be told and an alternative found there are many marques out there that will match all your requirements. "In our business, the customer is king" too many people are forgetting that strapline today and the only language the likes of MB understand is "Lost Orders"

I'm with you Tony. I couldn't spend £50K on a new car and be forced to accept a black interior. Do people know how easy it is to get BMWs or Volvos with light coloured leather?

In the news this week was that Mercedes had their best ever September sales (globally) and best ever third quarter. Perhaps they feel they don’t need to make any more effort in the UK?

I think if the 300De was offered in Europe with a choice of leather interior, then I would go doo-laly, but is it.

Off my topic perhaps but as i said in an earlier post, we have had our current e-class from new and it is 15 years old... Quick story. We had the wheels replaced twice under warranty due to that horrible corrosion these wheels all suffer from. Once out of the 3 year warranty I was on my own so... I ordered a set of Mercedes wheels from Mercedes in Germany. identical wheels to what was on the car, these wheels have been on the car for fourteen years and I defy anyone to find ANY trace of corrosion??? WHY?

Why did the UK wheels corrode so easily and yet our German wheels are quite clearly immune??

With the discount we got, we have not quite spent £50k but I agree it is crazy, the vehicle is an AMG-Line and yet the proper AMG does have a choice of colours.

I thought Designio gives you the choice of both paint colours and different coloured leathers, but Nooooo. I spoke to someone at Milton Keynes as our dealership told me there were only a restricted Designio for the E-class (white or red paint) This was confirmed and I was told the full Designio was only available for the GLS and the S-class

Thank you for the Autocar link and hopefully the car will only be using the electric motor for most of my wife's journeys :) No vehicle tax and no refuelling

Did you use Carwow to negotiate the price?
