blooming lug nuts

05 clk 2.7 fitted after market spokes 7.5 all round (got to go) i have gotten myself cygnus 8.5 /7.5 as per spec
problem i have , is the after market alloy lugs are a cone head and short/
the cygnus are more rounded in the wheel ,so i cannot get any true idea of the length of m12 lug to fit
mercedes wont say ,but can do me a set £80 plus

are the any clk owners who could supply the correct length and if the lug are threaded on just the end or the whole shank

some help would be much aprecciated

Lug nuts is an American term .... we have wheel bolts/nuts

You can still use the old bolts to measure the length. Both will bottom at the same point.

now have recieved said bolts m12 40mm stated to fit by mb look a bit long
compareing to the v seated and putting the v studs in the wheel did not help as the v sit in the stud hole

i know to try the them on the hub and will do ,shift work next 4 days
this is the reason i was hoping someone could give me a more difinitive answer as it seem only 27 ml is the other option / looks like 15 ml of thread to go into hub

Try them. The fronts should be fine. The rear if too long will hit the parking brake mechanism. You can simply grind the excess off if only a mm or two or cut if longer.

Please be aware, the conical shaped bolts you had fitted with the aftermarket wheels are not 'normally' compatible with OEM alloys. OEM alloys usually have a 'seated/radius' bolts.

As pointed out by yourself in the initial post "the cygnus are more rounded in the wheel" which would indicate you need radius/seated bolts.

FWIW, as a general rule, OEM wheels = Seated/radius bolts and Aftermarket wheels = Conical/Tapered bolts.

With all due respect, the OP didn't mention whether he ended up being supplied my MB or bought 40mm bolts (as MB stated that was the length required??). OP even makes ref to the cygnus wheel being more rounded.

Never the less I would be checking all references possible for my own peace of mind, never had tapered heads on any of my OEM MB wheels and I have had a lot of wheels!

now now boys dont fight ha. its stated i have bolts and included pic ( although bad pics ) of the conical and rounded 40m merc bolt, the difference can be seen in the pics of the wheel conical bolt from aftermarket wheel barely shows thread and the 40m round seated bolts show about 15/16 ml of thread . my concern is that there is to much thread showing on the 40m rounded bolt . the wheels (cygnus) will be test fitted by the weekend rain permitting

Now that I can see that blurry pic I can see that your new bolts are of the radius seat type. Regarding the length I think you may just get away with it, but as you say test fitting will give you a definitive answer.

As previously stated, it is the rears that need that extra attention due to them possibly fouling the parking brake if they are too long.

On a side but related note, don't forget to keep a set of appropriate length bolts in the car for the spare wheel. Ask me how I know

the cygnus wheels are on . flags out, 40mm bolts cleared the rear brakes , and even before i gt off the forecourt i could feel the difference in the car, even better drive less drift and better ride

anyone want some aftermarket alloys !?
