C220d estate Premium, 2017.
Hello everyone. New to the forum.
Just bought a 17 plate c220d 5 door premium.
So far so good.
Can anyone tell me if my car can only auto park parallel. I've seen conflicting posts and even the online manual , where it says it can bay park as well.
I'll be trying it soon. Although I can't see me using it much.
Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome

It should be able to, drive slowly past where you want to park and press the button. My W213 E220d could do it.

I tried it in a Ford S-Max Titanium I hired earlier this year. Reverse park into a parking space e.g. supermarket. I tried it just once and never again. I'm not sure it could stop by itself o_O

I routinely use it to parallel park. Both sides.
Drive past with the indicators on, stop, select reverse and wait for the display to change.
Some times it doesn't offer it, I'm not sure why but I can still do it by hand.

Mine doesn't offer the option if it deems the space to be too small - even when the space is fine for me to do it manually :)

My digital manual says the space needs to be 1.3 meters longer than the car. It's supposed to be able to 'unpark' itself too but I've never managed to make it do so ..... I suspect user error :D

It will ‘unpark’ itself but the alarming thing is that it will get out of the space then leave you stranded a little whilst you take control....not a problem if you’ve no-one around you of course....

My manual actually says:
“Use Active Parking Assist for parking spaces that are... parallel or at right angles to the direction of travel”
I did try parallel parking once, just for fun, but don’t use it regularly.

I have this feature but have yet to try it. I suspect it will take a lot longer than just parking it myself:)

I've used it on a Ford, it works brilliantly.

On the manual gearbox cars the only element it does is twiddle the wheel. The clutch, braking and gear changing remains down to the driver. But I bet it parks better than 95% of drivers and far faster than virtually all drivers... and can do it the rain, in the dark and without needing to alter the mirror positions of someone else's car

its not saying fall asleep and let me put a crease down the side of the car. its saying I can do this, but if it looks like I cocked it up put the brakes on... however I bet 90 times in a 100 it does it better than you would have done and in one hit

the bit I think most are forgetting is its spatial awareness is 100% all the time and the rules it's using for steering manoeuvres is based on best in class. So the likelihood of anyone bettering it would have to be the best driver on a good day, 100% on his game in ideal conditions after a bit of practice. Throw in some dirt / rain or obstruction hindering the view through a window or in the mirrors and the odd strange object that might come in to play after you thought you knew where things were and it will be almost impossible to do it better
