This car seems to throw up a fault weekly.
Fixed a rain water leak yesterday, had to take wheel arch liner out and seal a bung that leaks, and whilst there noticed that the lower ball joint on front suspension has split its rubber boot.
I thought no issue as held in place with a large castle type nut. Not this car, they are pressed into the hub, and need to be pressed out and replaced with new type.
Not having the tools to press, looking like hub removal as well to do, cold concrete drive to work on, can only jack it up enough to grovel underneath, decided to be a real Mercedes driver and booked it in to local garage to do. Both sides for about £220.
it hurts to pay labour, but at the age now where i will bypass jobs that require to much effort.
I think i am getting old !!!!!!!

labour costs today really hurt, especially when yr on fixed income and trying to control expenditure, i still do all myself, really dreading when i cant. hope that coincides with mobility cart requirement...........

I would do it myself, but, i seem to have an issue with my hands at the moment, they hurt like hell and gone really stiff, i know its an age thing, but i want to rest them, and MOT comes up in two weeks so have to get them done.

Have you been tested for gout?

Is that not to do with feet and drinking too much !!!!!
To be honest, i the doctor seems to think its carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands, but if i do not do any heavy work for a while it settles down.

Assuming it is the wheel suspension ball joint.
If it has no play, then put some grease thru the split and glue it together.

I have done that (m attkh) but i am a bit fussy with the car, so decided to have both replaced, as other side will not be far behind.

SWMBO hardly drinks but she gets sporadic gout - one time she couldn't walk for a couple of weeks so I got to do the cooking (for which she'll probably never forgive me)! Our doctor shrugged it off as just "part of the ageing process". - Been there myself with osteoarthritis issues - medics always look nonplussed when you tell them "you want to try it from in here!"

If you want chapter and verse on gout then I'm your man. I probably know more about it, being a chronic gout sufferer for 25 yrs or so, than I know about Mercedes. Bear in mind I have a three pointed star tattooed on my heart. But somebody ought to move this thread because it's gone way off topic, this ain't fixing the mans shonky suspension.

Great advice when young and fit, but eventually we all have to admit it's better to get a younger guy to do it for you, even when he knows less than you!

can be food .crab was my fav, but it really triggered that issue....

Gout attacks are a consequence of elevated blood urate levels. When the body can't cope with uric acid it is deposited usually in the joints as crystals, visualise ground glass.Typically but not exclusively the big toe. I've had gout in every joint with the exception of the hips and shoulders and hospitalised on several occasions. The trick is to keep the urate level down to 4 mg/dl using the prophylactic drug allopurinal. If you find that a single meal or drink triggers an attack then your levels were already too high.

Friend of mine was going to doctor with exact same symptoms you are describing and told him same thing carpal tunnel, but dont know if was the doctor or somebody else diagnosed it later to be a bone out of place on his neck. Hes right as rain now
