Am having difficulty identifying the bolt holding in the cps.
It is not an E8 nor E10 torx.
Managed to get to it fairly easily and have a print on some blue tack and a photo.
Any help would be appreciated. UploadFile1572006673.389649.jpg UploadFile1572006655.392419.jpg

MB Torx are six sided (female) on my car (E10, E12 etc), I bought a set of female Torx sockets when I got the car. However, in extremis, a 12 point ring spanner or 12 point socket fits. Not to be recommended but it does work.

Thank you all, it does appear to be the six sided torx. Shall have to go shopping for one.

Just been double checking,
I have six sided torx, E8 and E10. The 8 seems a bit too small and the 10 fits over but doesn’t catch.
The imprint doesn’t look like torx though.
Perhaps someone has been heavy handed in the past though no real sign of damage on the bolt and I have no paperwork saying that it has been replaced. Only 70k now.

It failed to start just the once and diagnostics said cps so thought I’d replace it. An easy task, best part of a day, it’s still attached, I should have just gone to MBS and had a cuppa.

If I get that sort of problem, and I have a full set of tools for MB, I turn to my multi sockets or multi spanners which adjust to fit any worn or damaged bolts or nuts, no I do not mean pipe wrenchs or moole grips which cause further damage.

Pretty sure it's an E8. Try a gentle tap to assist it on.

I have tried that too.

I am going to have a serious go on Sunday with the bits I have. May consider taking the lip off for better access, the new one has a brass ring instead, but shan’t go as far as using mole grips or similar. No intention of damaging it and making worse for someone else.

Yup, nothing wrong with a normal fixing.

I remember making a 7mm Allen key for my Capri brakes when Ford introduced them as not available at the time.
Money and business I guess

If it stops raining I'll check the 210 - easy to get to on that as it's only a V6 and no go fast gubbins on top.

It is easy to get to, hence me thinking “I’ll do that in twenty mins”, not a lot of space but enough to be able to see 75% of the bolt under the cps. I am going to give it a good clean and see if I can get a good picture( or drop the phone ) so as to see what I am up against. The indentation on my bit of Bluetac appears to be something else other than a torx. More like a fluted head.

Please don’t get yourself wet, but thanks for the offer.

Bembo is right on the money, the 8mm socket from the indispensable 1/4 drive set will do the trick.

don't use the worn out bolt to refit the CPS, go get one, local dealer should have in stock.

on mine the multiplug crumbled in my hand taking it off, quite easy to get one from the dealer its called a "pin bush housing" (which is the name most manu call the plastic multiplug) and on Merc and BMW you can easily by all the plugs

I was planning to use a new bolt or even find the same thread and length one with a normal head or hex.
Am going to give it another shot tomorrow and get it sorted. I shall begin with an 8mm as suggested .
Haven’t had a problem with the connector but thank you for the info.

Just an update really. No further on with removing this bolt.

A 6mm socket just about grips it but it slipped when I tried to loosen it. I have tried my selection of sockets, hex bits, tried to tap the socket onto the bolt to grip it further but all to no avail. Still open to suggestions but UploadFile1572194902.607200.jpg not wanting to damage the bolt and make it really difficult for someone.
Shame really as it should have been an easy job for me, on the bright side, have given the engine bay a bit of a clean, replaced the air and pollen filters.

Thank you

That bolt looks really shapeless , do you reckon it has been stripped a bit in the past . The old bolt I re used when I replaced my cps last week looked as good as new
