Brand new to this forum, if this is already a topic, I apologize. I looked for something related and was unsuccessful.

A few weeks ago I bought a 2007 E320 with 177k miles. It is very clean inside and out, with all the maintenance records. I’m about 2,000 miles into owning the car (I got an oil change the day I purchased it). While driving down the highway the other day, I simultaneously got a check oil level at next fill up and check engine light. I immediately stopped in the next town and checked the oil; I was a quart low. Filled the oil and checked the code when I got home. The code was for the mass airflow sensor (I assume they are the sensors that are in the plastic tube going to the turbo). I removed the double ended air tube in hopes to remove and clean them out. After removal I realized that is not an option. In the tube I noticed a trail of oil going from the pcv (hockey puck) through the hose and into the tube. After researching and since I do not have oil leaking or showing in any way, I decided that the pcv is probably bad, and possibly as a result it dirtied up my MAF’s inside the tube. I went to the dealer today to buy both, I think it is a good sign that when I first brought up buying the tube they suggested buying the hockey puck as well which I was going to do anyways.
Has anyone delt with a similar issue, if so thoughts on what I chose to replace? Is there ANYTHING else I should look at/ check. That seemed like a lot of oil going into the turbo over a relatively short time. Is there anything I should be concerned about happening as a result of what happened? Thanks for the help in advance

Welcome buddy , I’ve got the same engine . Yes the pcv is worth replacing , the newer ones have a better orange seal that is clamped onto the pcv tube rather than a separate orange seal on the original pcv tube .
Yes it was a common oil/sludge leak at the point where the pcv orange tube goes into the “black batwing” that is the MAF .
This orange seal on the front of the batwing where it meets the turbo is a known weak spot where the pcv sludge drips from this orange seal into the inlet port motor which sits below it . So replace the big orange seal every couple of years .
The MAF’s are expensive so I would just spray clean it rather than replace it .

Thanks for your reply! So I had already ordered everything and I replaced the batwing and pcv the car is running fine but I can’t get the maf code to clear. When I clear it on my OBDll it is still in the pending codes before I even start the engine. Once I start the engine it may stay gone until I turn it off and restart. Why would it show as a pending code after being cleared without the engine running? Do I need a different machine to completely clear it or is that an indication that something else is still the matter? If so, any suggestions on where to look? I have gone through and quadruple checked my work. I don’t hear an air leak or anything abnormal coming from the engine bay while the car is running.

Can’t help with the codes buddy , a lot of folks on here use icarsoft (MB specific code readers) , or of course MB Star diagnostic machines at dealers and independents .
