270clk
Hi I not only had a problem with my then newly acquired 270clk that my local garage mis diagnosed as "not worth fixing and will cost a fortune".This turned out to be an old battery causing 27 faults!I was about to put on Ebay spares and repairs and give up on my first ever MB ,nearly 2 years later and no other real traumas glad I came on forum. Don't get me wrong I know that older cars can be problematic but really very fond of this old beast especially as it is the last few months of the 270 clk (55 plate)
Love the 5 cylinder lump (had Audi with 5 cylinders) like the engine drone ,so thanks everyone that helped and made me a MB fan.

Since I got my first MB ( 2010 w212 E Class ) in Jan 2018, ( my God,,,,it's nearly 2 years ago already.... ) and joined the Forum, I can't praise ( or thank ) enough the help I have received from the member's since then. I'm not going to name them, or speak about the numerous problems they helped me with,,,would simply take to long. So here's a global all encompassing " Thanks You All" and here's to the future collaboration !!!:D:D:D

Wighty, if you don't mind, the only report's I hope to make in the future would be along the lines of " And another 10'000 Miles trouble free Mercedes Benz driving " That's the plan anyway !!! ( but failing that, I know exactly where to find help !!!):D:D:D

Hi,
English is not my mother tongue, but it is a universal language that allows you to chat with the whole world. This is for this reason that I chose this one to get answers and help other people when I can. Recently, I did not know how to execute a task on my vehicle. Several people whom I thank again helped me.

Changed my thermostat today.
Lord Lucan & others suggested jacking up the front of the car to reduce coolant loss.
I drove up onto my ramps and emptied the reservoir with a syringe & tubing.
When I took out the thermostat housing I lost less than an egg cup full of coolant.
Top Tip.

Oil weep to top nearside rear of M272 engine on 2007 SL350 correctly identified within hours by the forum gurus as likely leakage from one or more of the plastic Expansion plugs (Cam Caps) Even pointed me to a Utube vid.
Part Nos: A0009985690 (small 30mm dia) and A0009986590 (large 65mm dia) are on order from MB Newcastle.
Thanks Guys

I’ve had a Turbo chatter problem that has been baffling me for a few months now and have been scouring worldwide forums. After a few hours of posting here I’ve discovered it is “normal” with other people having the same issue!

Thanks and look forward to being a part of the community (from Australia) :)

Initially it was to surround my self with all things Merc as I had just lost my car after a very long time... I saw the variety of topics discussed and thought I would reach out as I couldn’t face the thought of insurers.. I have had such a warm welcome and such gems of real practical invaluable advice from so many knowledgeable folks here... not having made a claim before, it is all a bit daunting and so thought I would reach out... Thank you to all who help us..

I’m new to this and it’s impossible to even ask a simple question. There are no instructions on how this site operates. Is there some secret instructions somewhere

I joined this site to investigate remedies into a faulty Sam unit
i.e combination steering column switch problems, wipers and headlights. Probably a SAM Unit.
How do I get to the subject matter without having to walk through thousands of threads.
Also how do we choose a response ? Is there a hidden menu somewhere here

It's not impossible or the forum would be completely empty...;)

Go to the technical area, choose a relevant sub area - Electrics would be the one I'd pick. Then click on "Post New Thread" and write up the problem you have

Just click the "Post Reply" on a thread to comment

There is also a search box that you can use to search for previous related issues

E Class 270CDi Estate 2005
This forum is a very very good community and resource. I had never owned a MB vehicle before although i had always wanted one. Been a long time VW owner and still have two vans including a 1989 T25 Panel van. Through the VWs i knew the value of forums and hoped this on would be no different. I wasn't disappointed. Great people and great knowledge.

I bought a 2005 E270cdi Estate on a bit of whim really. I would love to say i did loads of research etc but i didn't. It seemed cheap and well made so i bought it. Thought "well if it's a lemon at worst i'll learn something"

Anyways from this forum I have:

1) identified what needs to be done and how to do a 722.6 service including electrical connector change - gear changes are so much better now
2) identified the fault and repaired a noisy auto luggage compartment cover
3) found a battery drain which a previous owner had resolved by disabling the central locking
4) fixed a faulty RF receiver for the central locking
5) correctly set the parking brake adjustment
6) understood how the car works (central controller talking to satellite modules) and interrogated those modules
7) replaced parking sensors and got that system working
8) understood the odd sound from the engine (leaking injectors) - not fixed yet but its the next job

had the car from end August so quite a few bits really. I would have had no idea where to start with most of this stuff without the knowledge on this forum.

Many thanks to all

I just replaced my faulty? ABS sensor. ABS light still on. After searching discovered it might be the sensor ring on the inside of the hub. Swapped it for a new one even though I could see nothing wrong with the old one. My ABS light is now off. I was thinking an electrical fault so this forum saved me a headache looking in the wrong direction.

There are no Haynes manuals or the like for a lot of cars these days. So forums are a godsend especially if you do your own repairs and servicing.

After about 15 years, I've at last encountered this area of the site for sore Merc. owners...
It has been, therefore, over a decade and a half, helping me sort out:
Reluctant and sporadic electric seats on our first Merc. an SLK320 with a faulty relay.
A VERY grumpy Mk2 SLK350 after I drove through some deep-ish water, which washed the outside air temperature sensor into the engine bay, causing the car to think it was in the Sahara/overheating.
A front brake sensor fault on a Mk3 SLK350, which caused the car to think it was in motion, so roof opening was verboten!
And the perennial air box water overflow syndrome on our present SL 500 R230. Drain the box and fit some fine mesh over the top to stop sycamore seeds etc inserting themselves.
So many kind mentors and so little time!
Thank you all. You are indeed the salt of the earth!!
ps
And, in memoriam, the irreplaceable Televisual guru Malcolm. RIP
