Looking to buy my first Mercedes E class and need some advice as struggling to find it on the internet. I have the choice of a 2017 E class 200 estate diesel or a 220 estate diesel, but struggling to find the difference between them. Any help appreciated thanks. Off out just now so I will reply to messages later.

E220d with the 9G box, nearly 200bhp and most excellent on fool economy. I think the E200d is just a detuned version. I’d be searching out a 220

^ +1, the 220d OM654 is a remarkable engine it’s the only 4 pot motor I would change my V6 OM642 engine for, if you have the choice spec the car with full digital dash and Apple CarPlay

Definitely get the 220d. Try to find one with Premium Plus and Drivers Assistance Packs. The DA pack is excellent (semi autonomous driving, lane assist, steering assist, remote parking), and Premium+ will give you multi-beam LED headlights, COMAND, Wide screen cockpit, Pano roof etc. Apple Play is a software update k. COMAND. Mine didn't have it from new, but when I had an issue with COMAND (now fixed) the technician applied the latest software patches and Apple Play / Android Car thingy appeared by magic!

Trying up and down the country to find an approved one of that speck, but all I'm getting id the cars with the smaller screen. Is the car tax of the Premium plus models not £500?

Do low spec models abound as that was what the punters got for their PCP deals, perhaps?

There'll be one that spec in Inchape Mercedes in the next few weeks when I trade mine in. If you get one registered before April 2017 then it's £30 road tax. After that, the £450 for the first 5 years kicks in

The one I'm looking at from Stratstone was registered in July 17 and the sales guy said the road tax was £145, is he wrong mate.
It's just a base SE saloon.

Here ya go, mate:

Current VED rates:
Rates for second tax payment onwards
Fuel type Single 12 month payment
Petrol or diesel £145

FYI it aint wot u have to spend, cash or otherwise, its wot the original list price wuz, innit.

The 'packs' and options like paint finish can take the original list price above the £40k threshold, in which case it attracts the extra VED, hence the earlier comment about the pcp deals as lots of 'buyers' have a set amount in their 'car allowance' through their employment that often makes it punitive to have options and packs.

Mine is a W213 E220d estate AMG line, premium plus, drivers assistance pack, registered October 2016. It is £30 a year road tax (the GL I had before was £525, so I noticed the difference!). WBAC were offering £20,500 last month when I typed it in, so I'm guessing forecourt price will be more than that. It's got 43k miles on the clock, so that probably gives you a reference point while you're looking.

An old B-Class.
Which is the model preferred as a taxi? Perhaps that is the version to avoid! Unless OP intends to run it as a taxi!

Taxis will be the SE model, recognisable by the real dials in the dashboard (instead of the wide-screen electronic display) and a small screen sat-nav.

So do more of the AMG models have a wide-screen electronic display? I've been searching for SE models as I prefer the leather seats. Never seena car model with so many options lol.

I think the AMG line came with the twin 12" displays, the SE had normal clocks and the smaller display. SE has leather though and more comfortable 17" wheels
