On my C180k Classic SE 2004 WDC2030... 66000 miles, I experience today when pulling away from a petrol station that the auto gearbox stayed in low gear and would not change up

I stopped the car, put it into neutral and drive away again with the gearbox changing up as normal

I've noticed recently, which may be connected , that the auto gear change is sluggish and a little jerky

Could this be a cause of concern re a potential expensive repair - or was it just a one off glitch ?

Advice appreciated

Car was purchased in March this year and had a full service, the garage advised that the ATF and filter would require changing upon it's next service. I've only done approx. 1k miles since then all around town driving
Checking the MB service record the ATF and filter was last changed at 45000 miles in 2013
Current mileage is almost 67k
Hopefully an ATF change and filter may rectify the problem then ?

The atf and filter change is the cheapest starting point with a gearbox , assuming no other fault codes are present .
Edit... checking the atf level on your 5g gearbox is the cheapest start point

Check for any leaks, they are prone to leak around the electrical plug (pilot bushing as it's known) and just requires a new one or O rings. This can also cause the oil to wick up the wiring harness causing more trouble but it's a quick and easy fix.

Thank you all for the various responses

The ATF was changed with new filter etc, and the auto gear box is now functioning correctly
