Hi all. I bought a new leather interior for my w203 c220cdi. The seats were exactly the same apart from 1 plug on the passenger seat. After putting it all together i started the car and the check alternator and battery light came on and has stayed on. Is there anything connected to the seats that could do this or just a random additional problem. Cheers for any help.

Have you checked the fuses in case the odd plug has a different function than on the previous seat, are they heated for example.

Would that cause the battery light to come on????

I have no definite idea but it's too much of a coincidence.
If you've blown a fuse it could cause a lot of different problems.
Check all three "fuse boxes" under the bonnet and the end of the dash drivers side and in the side of the boot passenger side.
Or check if you disturbed any connectors when you had the interior out.

When you were doing the work was the interior light on? Thinking the battery might have drained somewhat whilst you were undertaking the work.

Yes it was but ive bought a new battery. Would the battery light need resetting or would it go off automatically

Should go off once it’s charged.

A new battery might have been standing around for a long time, losing charge the while.
NEW doesn't mean FULLY CHARGED.
And in disconnecting and reconnecting, something obscure may have triggered the light.
Why not fully charge the battery, and use a good code reader to identify any fault codes and remove them?
(and with the 203 you might have many codes showing, but most of these will not be relevant to your battery light).
You may also have to reset a few things, like window open/close, power steering settings.

Not that this is of any help but when I had my w203 (2002) the interior lights would never come on if it was daylight, only when it got dark ?

My W211 was the same, I thought they were faulty when I first had it...

The Check Alternator/Battery warning light came on in my 2002 C270 CDI three years ago, and the battery was almost new. Over the next few weeks, I kept using the car as normal, driving about 60-100 km per day and the voltage on the battery remained constant. The alternator was still charging the battery, but the MIL light was annoying so I had the alternator replaced with a used part. The light immediately came off, never to appear again. The mechanic who replaced the alternator had already given me the answer, which is that my alternator is charging, but it is no longer 'telling the ECU' that it is, so the ECU thinks the alternator is not charging. I asked if the alternator can be repaired, but he said these alternators are to complex for the normal auto electric repair shops (here in South Africa) to tamper with, so he told me either live with the MIL on or find a spare.
