I do have the impression that he has no life off the track, loads of smiles and goes through the charm initiative but somehow seems a little sad behind the facade ... might be wrong

If you look on his social media he is always at an event or something so always busy but that doesn't mean he is happy.

I still think he is constantly hunting for approval even though the millions of fans he has idolise him.

Too much of the "poor me" in what he says over the years for me, the same lines are used every race (Greatest fans in the world). Life is what you make it

What an entertaining race and boy do I have a 'few observations' :) I wonder how lewis hamilton would get on if he went to the toilet and was confronted by one roll of soft toilet paper and one roll of smooth paper?? How long would he take to make a decision on what roll to use and would he blame the toilet cleaners for any delays in making a decision.... 'I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!!'

Not his number one fan but I feel he was hard done by to get that 5-second penalty, if we overprotect drivers and obscure their rearview mirrors then nasty things might happen if they turn that steering wheel. I love open wheel racing, but is this still 'open cockpit' racing?

Sebastin, Sebastin.... Are you a team player? Do you even know what being part of a team really means?? yes you are a great driver, yes you are a magnificent formula 1 ambassador but........... Just like Hamilton you are ruthless and have NO consideration for your teammate. Surely Ferrari were fully aware of this driver's attitude towards his fellow driver before employing him? Surely they must have known how blinkered he is?

Will next season see the Honda-powered Red Bull challenge for the World championship?

I still do not understand why the top Formula 1 drivers get paid so much as it is certainly nowhere near the most dangerous of motor-sports. Yes formula 1 used to be harmful to the health of its drivers but now the tracks are car parks with pretty lines indicating a course and the drivers are in a very protective construction where they would be extremely unlucky to get injured and yes we can all think of various motor-sports which are far more dangerous but the riders or drivers get nowhere near the salaries of top formula 1 drivers :(

Finally, when will commentators recognize the very strict team orders that Mercedes apply to their second driver? How many times have they openly ordered Valterai Bottas to either stay out or surrender his lead to Hamilton? I accept that Hamilton is a good driver but does he really need Bottas to sacrifice his race just so Hamilton can win races?? I cannot help but wonder if after seeing points regularly being taken from him... does he then lose his edge??

whewwww, apologies for this rant and I blame my medication :)

I know rumours abound in F1 but I hear this morning that Lewis Hamilton is thinking of a change and a 25% chance it might be Ferrari. Is that just purely rumour mongering by the media ??

I think Ferrari was reported yesterday as saying there would be a seat available for him in a couple of years ( but I may have misheard). Changing the subject, was a little sad to see Hulkenberg bow out yesterday. I've always thought of him as a but of a 'makeweight' but thought that this year he'd been more impressive.

Ferrari said there would be a seat for him in 2021. Hamilton replied, when asked, that it was, perhaps, the only compliment Ferrari had ever paid him.

I think he will go to Ferrari, they have to get rid of Seb, he is a hinderance to them at the moment

What about those prima donna footballers that earn crazy money for kicking a ball around, play acting injury and doing nothing vaguely dangerous!

Fundamentally its because of supply, demand and marketing.
If the sport can afford to pay top money for the top drivers and still make a 'profit' from advertising and marketing benefits then it will pay whatever it takes to maximise that benefit.
F1 is a business first and foremost.

It's the same with football.

Tricky one. IF he wins the next WDC then he can match MS, but really he is going to want to beat him..... But then it is which team is most likely to do the best under the 2021 Regs.. To me Merc will be ahead of the game.

Booked up for the British Grand Prix today, camping at Silverstone Woodlands for the 5th year in a row.

The group has grown to 12 again this year, in the "Live In" Lively area

Arrive on Thursday 15th July and leave on Monday 20th

Only ever book General Access Tickets so we are free to move around and not hemmed in, will be watching the race from the Entertainment Zone at the bottom of the Wellington Straight

Enjoy seeing MB and LH win again.

I started to watch F1 when we could camp near the track and it was affordable for most people (early 60s with my dad) - was exciting in those days. Stopped enjoying F1 about 10 years ago.

Woodlands is 200m from Club / Vale corners, we enter the circuit at Gate 15 which is the closest to them.

Cost wise:

Camping £125 each includes the pitches and camping from Wed to Mon and so much entertainment it is incredible, like a mini festival

General Access tickets are £190

I truly don't know - are those prices cheap?

We camped trackside with our cars, not 200m away - we could lie in the tent and watch the race. Modern F1 is simply boring and a great marketing exercise.

It is not a bad price for 4 days of non stop entertainment, it is not just about the F1, it is the whole weekend and having a bl**dy good laugh as well with friends

Camping is a bit high at £25 per person per night in comparison to say CountryFile Live where a pitch is £28 per night for up to 5 people on a proper site. Proper site includes 16A hook up, large pitch on hardstanding or grass, awning, permanent showers/loos if required, we have onboard facilities. In comparison to CarFest at £115 per night, it is cheap.

General admission is high in comparison to CountryFile Live, which is free if you use your O2 mobile to get tickets at the right time. It is cheap in comparison to CarFest.

The current en vogue 'festival' ie an event in a field, run at an average of £70 per person per day admission. Then there is the captive audience premium on everything. Pub in the Park, Bestival, Reading etc.

But what JBell hasn't included is the trailer full of booze he normally takes which must be a fair few bob too. :geek::rolleyes::D:cool:

Like most of the en vogue festivals it's worth doing it once for the experience. The Weds to Mon at Silverstone makes it a mini holiday. Usually only do the Saturday at Silverstone when I've been, but its only just an hour away.

With respect, festivals and or crowded campsites are the last places I'd enjoy these days. I've always liked camping. Got it from my dad and most of our holidays were to very secluded places. We even went to the Okavango swamps in the 60s before people knew it existed.

The last time I camped was in my off-road caravan in the Australian outback about 5 years ago. Air-conditioned, double bed , shower, toilet (vacuum type with cassette) , fridge, in and out-door kitchens, water storage and fully self-contained with 220v (inverter), battery banks and a solar array on the roof for camping in the bush. Even had a Nespresso with me for my morning java.

We'd sometimes go 2 weeks and not see another soul.

My wife likes being under the stars but prefers to be under 5 stars. Camping was a compromise for her as long as long as she was really comfortable.:shock:

You grumpy old so and so. :geek::shock::D

How do you actually know you wouldn't enjoy Silverstone, without trying it. There are units like your Oz one that rock up there as well as basic tenting. You could push the boat out and hire one if you're quick. I'm sure Camp JBell would share a tinny with you :D

Bit like going abroad and knowing you won't like the food as its not like at home. Although in your case you have been abroad and enjoyed the food :confused:

Stop being a grump and try it, just once :p

Or failing that try Castle Howard for CountryFile Live next year, just for a day out to experience an en vogue festival. I'd wager you'd enjoy it if you went with an open mind, not an empty head :p;)

As discussed earlier in the thread, I've camped at many F1/motor races in my younger days. I've also camped at some of the remotest locations you can imagine and also in some pretty rough circumstances. I know all about camping - been there, done that.

Last time I went to a F1 race (Spa), I was there as the guest in corporate hospitality. Was a pleasant day out but I decided that it was not worth the drama getting there and home, the crowds and watching the race on TV was actually more interesting than the real thing. I've stopped watching F1 it is just too boring and I have better things to do with my life.

I've had homes in 8 countries, lived and worked in 11 countries and travelled to many more and I am reasonably sure that I have seen and done enough in my life, to know that tramping around in the wet and mud in an overcrowded place is not for me and that my head is not empty.
