How to program Easy Entry Feature
R171 2006 SLK

Hi I am trying to program Easy Entry Feature (EEF). I can get into the page to set it. I can see the EEF on/off. I can switch it on, but only the steering wheel moves. It says in the manual that there are 3 settings.
1) Off,
2) Steering Col
3) Steering Col + Seat
but I cannot find any setting apart from on/off, so I cannot set it to move the stering col and seat. I have tried the + - buttons on the steering wheel, but only on/off. Any ideas?

The seat adjusters in my 08 R171 SLK are manual, not electric - are yours the same? Think I've read that you need the memory seat option for what you're looking to achieve.

In my R172 only the steering wheel moves, the memory seats don't and my manual says only the wheel moves. Are the seats already right back when in the driving position and thus can't move further?

Hi thank you for the reply. Mine (my wife's) has the memory, electric seat option and has an option for the easy entrance steering wheel, which works, but not the seat.

Hi in the manual, it gives all options, but it doesn't come up on the dash, only steering wheel. No my wife has the seat quite far forward and is set in the memory, so she can use that to move it into the drive position on enrty, but has to do a manual seat move to get out.

Have you had your car long? I remeber you saying that it was Opal fire red. My wife I am glad to say it amber red I think it is called. She had a 1999 slk until I saw this one and got it for a snip, so replced the R170. So much more to the car and so many toys. Well you never know a car until you have had it for a few months lol.

Bought the car 11/11/19, a week later (maybe less) took it to my local MB indie who found a load of faults so seller (trader) collected it and had it for a week sorting most of the identified problems. He delivered the car back to my indie who serviced the car, got it back late on a Wednesday evening so just drove it 1 mile home into her garage until the Sunday - within 10 miles the rear NS wheel fell off! It's been at the indie ever since (4 weeks 3 days today) for him to fix the damage, was suposed to get it back Friday before Xmas, rear ABS sensor fault, still waiting for the replacement sensor to arrive and be fitted!

So - I've owned it for almost 2 months but only "had" it for about a week in that time, and only driven about 300 miles!

My wife had a 2004 171 & currently has a 2010 171. Both seats & steering wheel are manual.

The manual seat back adjuster annoys the hell out of me, especially compared to my 968 cab. We're both short, so can use the small amount of storage behind the seats, but release the seat back to put something behind the seat, you then have to sort it back to your preferred position. On my 968 cab there was a seat back adjuster under the front of the seat squab that set the seat back position, plus a seat back release button halfway up the seat back, you could release the seat back, put something into the rear "+2" area under the wind deflector, and when you pulled the seat back up it returned to your previously set position.

Not really - basically buggered back problem! Reason I swopped the 968 cab for the SLK is ease of access/egress due to both of us having lower back problems, so having to mess with the seat back adjuster instead of the civilised system on the 968 is annoying.

Maybe the seat moving back is an optional extra whereas the steering wheel movement is standard? My user manual covers all the options whether fitted or not which can be annoying! My seat is almost all the way back anyway but what I have done is experimented with the best seat position for exiting the car when there is limited space and then set that as one of the 3 memory storage button options. I only use it in tight car parking spaces as I can park diagonal in my garage.

I must say Chris if I had any kind of back issues, an SLK wouldn’t be my choice.
Even my E coupe gives me a bit of Jip sometimes. :(

I find the SLK seats (171) very comfortable for many hours of sitting. I was in a focus for a 2 hour journey this week and was very uncomfortable after about an hour.

Agreed BC, it’s just the entering and exiting.

Ok, that can be challenging, depending upon how I park in my garage (yes I cleared it enough to get my car in :p) I can only open the door about 10” so it’s an interesting alight and egress for me

In the days when I was fortunate enough to use my garage for its rightful purpose, I stuck carpet underlay to the walls.

I've attached a polystyrene ceiling square to my garage wall. It works really well. Paintwork rubbing against breeze blocks not good.

My car has the seat & steering wheel option for ease of entry, but David's alternative solution of resetting position 3 seems excellent.

I park nose in and have my trailer on the drivers side - my door opens up against the plastic mudguard on the trailer wheel.
