How do you change oil on your cclass w205 since 2014 ? drain or extract oil ?

hello,

it seems that the official procedure from Benz for any C-class W205 since 2014 is vacuum / extract from the top, can you confirm ?

My feeling is that this procedure is not as good as draining, but Benz engineers cannot be totally dumb ? what do you think ?

But still, I think that if oil has never been drained in my car, I should at least once try to go where they will drain it to change it.

Thank you for your ideas.

Suck these days

Plastic sump and metal sump plug equals a tendency for the sump to crack

I agree with Benzw205 you would think it would need a drain now and then , although there may be the problem Blobcat has mentioned,,I have not drained a plastic sump or don’t know if they
make the bung magnetic which I suppose would help . most of mine is pump out dip stick holder with an drain now and then. But it’s all metal.

Do one last sump drain , fit a magnetic stainless steel Gold Plug and buy a 9L extractor off the bay .

Some cars (Smarts for example) don't have sump plugs. A properly used suction pump will get as much out as draining. If you want to sure drop a litre of new oil into the sump and use it to flush out the dregs.
My own Smart Roadster has 145k miles still on all original internals and turbo (and its not driven gently...)

I cracked one sump on an om651 trying to get the drain plug out back in the days when they had just started appearing in the w204. Sump is a pig of a job to change. You have to lower the subframe and support the engine from above. I suck 'em all since then.

Some of the very new w205 have a plastic plug that you just twist out with a screwdriver and fit a new plug when done. These are not a problem at all.

Seeing as used engine oil is carcinogenic, why would you let your mechanics stand under the car and get a pint of the stuff up his arm as he undoes the sump plug? Old fashioned way of doing it and will probably be outlawed before long.

Gravity pulls things down believe it or not. Drain from the sump is the best esp if left overnight.
The merc dealer near me drains.
It may be on some cars with plastic sumps they pump, but I asked the workshop manager and he said no they only drain. You can even see the catch pans they use that can be raised to under the sump when the cars on the lift through the window into their huge garages.

Pan funel directly into an 208L barrel , I can see why .

Dispersants hold impurities in suspension so no fear of not getting the dregs .

Dregs /sludge only present if poor quality oil is used , coolant contamination or change interval was too long .

They’ll most likely suck the electrons out in the future, don’t want them pooling around on the workshop floor :D:p:cool:

There's a video on Y/Tube where a Tesla motor is dismantled, and it's full of oil.
I know a lot of high voltage mains cables are laid in oil filled ducts to prevent overheating.

Oil is a commonly used coolant for high voltage transformers and power circuits.

If plastic sump then extraction is the best method . Lots of these pumps on ebay .I picked one up for my oil changes .At the time i had to remove my under tray .But then i purchased an 12 volt extraction pump only to find i had a square hole in the under tray that the oil went through so no need to extract it now . But i use it now and then if i am pushed for time .

I have a Pela 6000 as per @Wighty above, I've also recently picked up a 12v electric one from Lidl so will try that next time.

Oil changes with a pump are far more civilised.
Take car to shops to buy biscuits.
Insert pump tube down dipstick hole and pump up vacuum.
Go inside and make coffee.
Come back out and drain first 6 litres into empty containers.
Insert pump back into dipstick and pump up vacuum.
Go inside drink coffee and munch biscuits.
Go back out and remove pump, change filter and refill with oil.
Simples :)
