W211 COMAND Navigation Intermitent Can't Read DVD

Our W211 estate has recently started to have an intermittent problem with the COMAND sat nav. The main screen pops up a message saying "Can't read DVD". The the navigation voice instructions continue to work and the display in the instruments is still working. The Can't Read message stays up on the main screen for some time but then the maps come back briefly only to disappear again.

I have removed the disc in the rear to check for dust etc but it seems to be clean and undamaged.

Ideas please.

First thing I would do is clean the disc
even using a little a alcohol and a micro fibre cloth. Or buy a head cleaner they are only a few pounds and come with disc and cleaner provided. And run it through following the instructions on the disc.

I have a DVD head cleaner disc but was a bit unsure about using it in the car. Looks like a job for tomorrow then - if the weather inmproves!

I have used one it worked to my surprise, it has a we brush on it.
Hope it works for you and it’s something simple.

Is the disc an OEM one, or an eBay "original" cheapie that is just a copy?

If its a copied disc, that may well be your problem. Otherwise, using the DVD head cleaner as mentioned is next to try.
