Had this car for 9 months now and thought I would post a note to let you all know how much I am enjoying it.

It is very comfortable, smooth as you like and the engine is just sublime. Had various engines in the past and had tried to largely stay away from the previous generation OM651 as wasn't a big fan (still have this in the GLC!). But the new engine is just something else. I understand they no longer make a V6 but am strarting to think what must the new in-line 6 be like in the 400d models!? Does anybody drive one of those?

Anyway the car is a base model E220d SE. No bells and whistles but does everything I ask of it with minimal fuss. Highly recommend it if anybody is after such a car!

Had the same setup in my late 2016 E220d, covered nearly 48k miles in it and pretty much loved every minute. 9G box is sublime and the overall package is great. So good I’d be tempted to invest my own money if I needed another 4 door.

What mileage is the car up to?

Mileage is currently 33k. I bought approved used when it was on c. 22k miles.
Not bad value too. At the time I had posted some threads on here and was looking to go the AMG route. Nearly pulled the trigger on a c63. I am very glad I did not make that choice. Although a stunning car that would have been, for an everyday London commute it probably would have become tiring very quickly.
Only thing I feel it is lacking is memory seats! (It does not have the Premium Package).

I'm watching comments on the 654.
I've been deterred from the 651 as it sounds like an engine designed to increase dealer revenues and encourage vehicle replacement on a perhaps 3 yearly period. The 646 encouraged much longer ownership so not so good for revenues.

I also have an E220d but with Premium Plus specifies for new order. Have had it a year now and it is fantastic and beats hands down every other high marque car I have owned. Smooth, powerful, incredibly economical, hi tech and very comfortable and stylish. Love it.

My son has the 213 E220d with full digital dash, 20in wheels and AMG styling and ironically he changes car quite regularly and is now a bit concerned that what he gets next might not be as good - says it all really
If he’s paying company car tax tell him to look at E300e or E300de.

9th gear on the latest gearbox mapping doesn't kick in until 74mph. Use the paddle shift to kick it into 9th when cruising.

Seems a good engine
Powerful and unbelievably economical (well mine was).
Simplex chain so long term reliability is something to be aware of no doubt. Probably still a bit new to hear of failures, only seen one issue on a 9G box on the forum (so far...)

With real leather seats as well :)

Most likely black though which isn’t my thing. Also I doubt my “Bennys” will stretch quite that far :(
