5g is the ideal technology for the highly detailed data an autonomous car would require and is here already in uk now.

Backwards compatability would'nt really work for 5g as it is very different system to 4g using a different type of transmitter.
It will have to work. There is no way consumers will accept a 5G service if they have no data outside main centres.
The 5G network also shares infrastructure with 4G. This is one of the reasons we will end up using Huawei network devices for 5G as to not do so would mean ripping out a lot of the 4G network and the cost involved in doing so is too great.

I will share one thing that's good about this forum, even when people really disagree its still fairly civil.
Im on ybw forum (boats) and omg, hostile or what..
You dare to post your point of view and they are jumping down your throat rather aggressively and some seem to be out just to poke everyone with a sharp stick... (mine only comes out occasionally ;))

Friend of ours works for EE in their future traffic shaping arm, really clever I what they are doing and their predictions in the airwaves, lots of things to come as I understand

Not a liberty to say, and if I’m totally honest I didn’t understand half of what he said anyway (which says something coming from a network engineering background) just that there will be a big leap in connectivity and data speeds over the next 5 years,

6G, 7G & 8G is probably already in existence but they need to get the R&D back on 5G before everyone needs to spend money upgrading again.....just like phones etc.. Back in the late 90's I was talking to an R&D techie at Intel about processor speeds when the max was around 500Mhz and he let slip that they already had 1Ghz and above running reliably with 2GHz already in testing. As each speed increase gave them a revenue boost it was a case of slowly slowly catchy monkey on release.

Potential slight issue with Electric Vehicles due to climate change

Good thing electric cars are so unpopular in the uk otherwise some early adopter could have created quite a problem if a tesla had been left charging overnight and flooded in that car park.

How would emergency services have dealt with that situation?

That water depth is 6". Hardly threatening.

Underfloor battery pack in a model S would be submerged. Personally i would not be happy to put on some wellies and pull the plug out in that situation and emergency services would be even more reticent.

I wonder what the procedure is for submerged electric cars? They must have one.

All those videos demonstrate is that Tesla drivers are on a par with Audi drivers for poor decision making.

There are plenty of videos on Youtube of Tesla model S battery removal and replacement and the waterproofing amounts to a bead of silicone sealant around the pack and a plastic sheet. Nothing else.

Clearly sufficient. There were several ICE cars in the second clip that were quite likely facing terminal engine failure in water the Tesla coped with.

Maybe, but comparing very obvious hydrolocking on a petrol/ diesel engine and the unseen consequences of water ingress on a battery pack is a bit of a misnomer.

If that was my Tesla at the very least the battery pack would have to be removed and checked for water damage and the main fuse replaced as a matter of safety.

Labour wise, even if nothing was wrong, this is not going to be cheap. On an older Tesla it may even be an insurance write off.

So no different to an ICE then.
Not in the circumstances of driving into a tunnel full of water no. But for the waterlogged car park the ICE would have the advantage as long as it was not started.

It's largely irrelevant as long as the water stays below floor level. Once the level get to the point where water ingress is into the vehicle interior the vehicle becomes a write off even if an ICE.
As the Tesla batteries reside under the floor the effective floor height is higher than an ICE car (the first thing I noticed when getting into a Tesla) but the lower floor level is approximately the same.
In reality I doubt there would be significant difference when stationary.
You could argue the doors etc on an ICE car are sealed but then so are the batteries on a Tesla.

Water cooled tesla battery's means even more power ;).

Lead acid are not lithium but look at the amount of off roaders that completely submerge their vehicles yet they have no problem restarting many times afterwards. Alternators, starter motors etc all seem to survive the drowning, its the grit and bearings that usually die first. and yes I know its not the most sensible idea submerging any vehicle...
