We've got some shots today of some wheel trims being prepped for paint.
The Mercedes emblem is being covered with tape so that it can be carefully peeled back following the paint process to reveal the shiny chrome Mercedes star.

Here are said wheel trims from above being painted in Bentley Silver Lake.
It's the first time I've personally seen a set of 280SL wheel trims in this colour - excited to see the entire car in this colour when complete.

What's your take on this shade of blue?

They put our modern stuff in the shade. So much quality is lost in modern design & manufacture.

I would love a set of those in Fire Opal Red on my SLK or in Carneol Red on the S204, even though both have genuine MB 17" alloys (the S204 AMG 5xtwin spoke which are rather lovely). As for the entire car in that colour - I've lusted after an E Type in a very similar colour for decades, always been way out of my price range!

Same here, 00slk, When it all come's down to it...the actual spraying is just the tip of the iceberg...preparation, preparation and more preparation..is everything !!!! Get the preparation wrong, and pay the price in the finished product !!!

Excellent, you must have been in the same line of money earning as I. 24 years then retired from it due to health. Took progress pictures too when I remembered and yes you are right, it's all in the prep

Yes, been in the motor trade one way or another all of my life...27 years hand's as hand's on Panel Beater / Mechanic, then moved into the management end, until I retired a few year's ago. Traveled quite a bit around the World too, all transport related. But nice to "keep in touch" as it were...I'm pretty sure that technically there has been many change's but the basic's remain the same..I can still remember the"rubbing down by hand" from the very first time I did it . It was a brand new VW Beetle front wing,and the factory coating had to be sanded down prior to priming. I took a break for lunch hour, but when I got back to the wing..all the places where I had rubbed through to the metal had rusted....and had to be rubbed clean again. That was the first lesson I learned... never leave water on bare metal !!!
Sorry to hear that you are in ill health. This kind of work has a price tag health wise..not exactly the safest chemicals to be using. I guess nowadays, people are much better protected than they were in the past.

The one covered to the left is also to be horizon blue.

In fact, blue is very much the theme.
There are 5 different shades of blue nearing completion at the moment.

Interesting that the colour is called Horizon Blue! An aquaintance of mine has a Horizon Blue Porsche 968 cabriolet which is a much paler colour - I tease him that it's been out in the sun too long and the colour has faded, especially as mine was Tahoe Blue which is a lovely colour. Your Horizon Blue looks really good, much better than the Porsche version.

Horizon Blue colored vehicles have been around a long long time....this VW from 1956 is also called "Horizon Blue", not saying that the paint would match the Horizon Blue under discussion here, but it was a popular name for that shade of blue.

Keep buying the lottery tickets!! I'm having the bonnet and roof resprayed next week by an excellent outfit that keep their prices low, quality up and order book full, when I booke 3 months ago Feb 20 was the first date they could give me! £600 just for thos 2 panels!
