What are the highest profile tyres that you can put on a 19inch wheel.
They are on a 2006 Cls 320 Diesel.

If the wheels are on the car , then for that size wheel , they already have the correct tyre size ? To get a larger tyre profile you have to go for a smaller wheel so that the overall size remains the same

Used to have a C63...

To give you some idea, my CLS 320 was on 17" OEM alloys, tyres were 245/45.

As above, if you just increase profile, you'll increase rolling radius with all the associated implications. (Unless you bring tyre width down to winter rally stage proportions).

Standard is

Front: 255/35R19
Rear: 285/30R19

Going higher will not do the drivetrain any good

Technically correct though Malcolm fitted his SL with +5 profile and they work fine.
Speedo is deadly accurate now so need to be very careful....

All speedos run around 2-3% fast with original size wheels.

Does that affect the insurance with non standard tyre sizes ?

If you wanted a higher profile the best way to go is to fit 17" Wheels with:

255/45x17 Front
275/40x17 Rear

This will give the the exact same overall diameter as the standard 19's and will increase the Sidewall from 3.4 inches to 4.3 inches on both front and rear.

If they are not approved sizes for the model then you "should" inform the insurer of the modification from manufacturer standard. If you fit another approved size then you shouldn't need to inform them.

Its something they usually just note, some do decide to charge the admin fee, rarely do they change the policy price if the wheels stay the same. Often best to do it a policy change time.

Saying that, if it is for comfort, that amount of change will not make a huge difference. Better to get a smaller OEM wheel with a tyre with a larger sidewall. Size will depend on the wheel inner profile clearing the break calipers etc so do proceed with caution.
