In a previous thread; I hit a pothole 4 weeks back and a second garage has confirmed that there is a crack in my NSR alloy.

Situation is that I would most like have to replace both alloy and tyre (garage saying this if impact has caused alloy to crack, can’t see damage easily within RF tyres)

That will be in excess of £600 (even for a used wheel - tyre is £250 a corner - GY F1 ASY 3 RF)

I’ve found a set of tyres on eBay which are SE ones - £600 and they’ve just come off a brand new E class - only done 2400 miles. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/124074638952

Think I would prefer the se 17” alloys as this is comfier! That’s coming from a 24 year old!!

I should be able to claim on council however, I’m not banking on that as less than 30% of claims are ever paid out.

Did you photograph the offending hole and make a claim hopefully the council won’t wiggle out of it. Run flats do have a habit of cracking rims unfortunately and creating a terrible ride which is why I changed my BMW run flats to standard Michelins.

My son is running 20in AMG alloys on his W213 without any problems so far, the ride is very good on Goodyear run flats which is one of the reasons I’m so impressed with the car

Yeah it is quite good tbf. I do also have dashcam footage of the car hitting the pothole.

The eBay sale looks very good value but I’m an aesthetic type so would want the 18in AMG alloys which are obviously more resilient

I had the 17”‘S and very comfortable they were. Guessing you don’t have larger brakes than standard

Mine is the AMG line premium plus. So I think it does have bigger brakes

Isn’t it the case with a claim against the council , that the hole had to have already been reported to the council ? Because if they didn’t know then they didn’t have a chance to repair it ?

Yes, easily reparable

Getting some quotes now to repair. :) Garage have said that you can’t see damage in the run flats and there is a noise coming from wheels. Recommends to have two near side tyres replaced however, that means all four will need replacing.

Think I’m just going to bite the bullet and put Michelin 4s all round. Will be about £550. Loved this tyre on a courtesy new 3 series I had.

If I had to replace like for like - the GY F1 ASY 3 Run flat total up to £800 for all four :O

Isn’t that Rim repairable ?.

I would have thought so, there is visibly very little damage, we assume the wheel is still round ?

Then you’ll need to buy tyre sealant and an air pump as I did on the BMW plenty on eBay

It’s a weird one. I think it depends on multiple variables. You can check how often that road is checked by highways. I reported the pothole 14 days ago and it’s still there with no update on fix. It is now absolutely hugeeeeee. Of course, we are all partially responsible as a collective breed!

The pothole I hit was large in size and depth, and in the main line of traffic. Plus it’s on a corner, on top of a hill... This means that it is potentially dangerous and the highways have failed to keep the road in a safe condition.

Also with the size of it - it must of grown over time. As it’s a B road, they’ll inspect 4 times a year.

If I see a pothole I always do my best to get 10 mins in evening and report on fixmystreet - then if someone does come worse off - they’ve got a better case to claim.

Typical ... just got a notification that someone else has been claimed by the pothole I hit.

They now have a cracked alloy which is beyond repair...

As it’s been over 14 days, they’ll have a very good leg to stand on.

Don't put Run flats back on, use a normal tyre and put a can of "Goop" in the boot

I would be tempted to get a second opinion on replacing all the tyres and what is the noise coming from the wheels????
