Hi guys.

My first post here.
Im Adam and I drive a C200 2010 which I’ve never had a problem with.
Yesterday, after a drive no longer than 10 minutes, my engine warning light came on.

I plugged an OBDII in and it gave 4 codes.
P0045
P0688
P2602
P2006.

I’m a little nervous to drive it. I will book it into a garage tomorrow but I was hoping somebody on here would have an idea Incase the garage tries to rip me off.

I appreciate this won’t be the place to post this but I’ve never really used a forum before, so either help/advice or if somebody could point me in the right direction, that would be amazing.

thank you,
Adam

I just seen one post that had two of the codes P2602 and P2006 which was fixed by replacing the battery.

I could not find a post with the other codes. These were for the turbo solenoid and power relay sensor open.
Could these potentially be caused by a bad battery?
I’m really hoping it could be that as we’re currently buying a house and wouldn’t want to spend too much fixing the car!

thank you once again.
Adam

MBs are very sensitive to bad batteries.
Measure the voltage at the battery after its been shutdown for an hour. Anything under 12.4 is a bad battery.

Thank you. I will test tomorrow. Would that cause a code for the turbo solenoid ect?

Get your cat booked into a reputable garage with a proper code reader and let them fix it.
Too many posters with code readers not knowing how to use them just whips up a frenzy.

thank you mobia.
As I said in my post, I will be taking it in, but I’d just want to see if people would have an idea first.
I wouldn’t want to be charged for changing sensors and such when it may just need the battery.

Charge the battery fully until you get a reading of 12.6V+, clear the codes and see if the faults return.
If you suspect tha battery, get it load tested. Even a fully charged battery can be failing.

Thanks guys. I will check the battery charge tomorrow. Charge it if needed and see if the code can clear.

I’ll report back tomorrow

Had to pull my car down the drive to test it, so not waited the hour that was mentioned but the battery was at 12.10. I will check again shortly to see if starting it up has had any affect but that would seem ok wouldn’t it?

Tested after about an hour and it’s now on 12.21V. Guess it’s not the battery.

12.21 isn't a good battery ~12.6 is what you're looking for

Haha, I messed up there. Must have seen it as 21 is bigger than 6! My mistake!!
Can I charge the battery without taking out out of the car? I’m worried about losing my radio ect. There was no code when I purchased the car.

Thank you guys!

I will book it into a garage tomorrow ...

That little expression is ringing warning bells with me - and I'm sure with a few others.

The battery is obviously needing attention, or better still, replacement - but checking in to any old garage is often the road to having parts swapped until the garage hits on the right cause. You really do need either an MB Dealer (expensive) or a trusted Independent (often more knowledgeable, trustworthy and cheaper) to get your fault codes properly diagnosed.

There are several good Independents on this forum. State where you are, and you'll get recommendations.

Thank you for that,
I’m in Musselburgh, near Edinburgh.
That’s the thing I’m worried about, either not knowing or just saying things need changing when it could just be the battery.

I will definitely get a new battery but wanted to know about the charging to see if it will charge to see if that was causing the problem.

thanks again

Charging in car with a decent battery charger should not be an issue.
Connect battery charger, check connections are the right way round then power on the charger.
You want at least 12.4v after 1 hour of being left unused and not on charge. That will give some idea of the ability of the battery to hold a charge.

I am not sure how getting his cat booked into a garage will fix the OPs problem.

A vet would be more suitable, surely.

I’ve only had the car about 3 months. So I don’t know the history of the battery.
I did try and charge it. On the slow charge it was up to close to 14v in about ten minutes.
Took quite a few turn overs before it started up. Ran it a little while then turned it off and the battery was around 11v. I’m guessing the battery is dead?
I can order one today but just worried that there might be more to it.
