I think pushing the bonnet back down is just a temporary fix so you can drive the car. The pyrotechnics in the system have now fired and will need to be replaced otherwise the car is not safe and any future collision with a pedestrian could have fatal consequences.

Hi Steve, so you think once its been activated it breaks a circuit which would give me the open circuit reading and I have to replace both safety pin devices.before I can wipe the code.

I think so but I’m not that technical so let’s see who else comes along. They may have a more definite view.

From my online manual:

If the active bonnet has been triggered, it is raised at the rear in the area around the hinges by approximately 80 mm. The active bonnet is triggered by pyrotechnics.

For the drive to the workshop, reset the triggered active bonnet yourself. If the active bonnet has been triggered, pedestrian protection may be limited.”

It needs a STAR reset regardless whether it was fully triggered if I remember correctly

Yes, they need to be replaced and the codes erased.

another bypass job then, not looking a £200 bill cos of a bad road.

I think the OP crashed into something. I haven't known them to trigger on a bad road yet.

good to hear, seems another flawed system designed to have us sat at dealer. i will examine in detail, whilst i not looking to harm pedestrian or anything else that runs into road , i am not sure i should be trapped into £ 200 odd bills when i am in my lawful place. on the road. perhaps pedestrians/ cyclists should carry their own insurance for such incidents

Sorry to wake up an older thread.

A fox ran out in front of my S212 last night and despite there being no collision the back edge of the bonnet shot up. Ive read this is due to the Active Bonnet anti collision system. Im trying to work out what do do and have read conflicting information that:

The bonnet should go back to its normal position by opening and closing - it hasnt and I cant see anyway that it would.
The bonnet should go back to it's normal by pushing down hard at the back both sides - didnt work but will try with 2 people next..
The actuators are electro mechanical and are good to go after a reset ?
The actuators are pyrotechnic so have to be replaced ??

I need to get the bonnet down so i can carry on driving the car. Warning messages i can deal with later when there is time.

Any thoughts on this please

I've ordered a couple of 2nd hand actuators so just now need to get someone to help me lift the bonnet off at the weekend, change them over and see how it goes.
UnusuallyI dont have any lights or warnings at all so I think that so long as I can get rid of the physical problem of the back of the bonnet being several inches too high I'm hoping there wont be any warning messages appear when the actuators are changed
Anyone had experience of this ? I seem to be in the minority in having the bonnet go high rise without any warning light or codes.

Sorted with a 2nd hand pair of actuators £ 70. No warning lights or messages.
