Are the insurance companies happy with this ??

A thoughtful gesture and nice to see some sensible things coming out of this mess.
Heard that taxis, lorry’s etc had been exempted a week ago.

Fundamentally s vehicle has to be roadworthy at all times irrespective of when the MOT was issued so all I can see happening is insurance companies paying more attention post any accident.

If only they'd do the same with road tax. My car was supposed to be registered before April, but now stuck waiting shipment to the UK, so will be registered after 1st April by the look of it, so another £960 Road Fund license First world problems eh?

Thanks @Blobcat didnt see JB had posted already !
Wonder what happens if your dealer isn’t servicing ?
The onus is on us to ensure the car is safe and roadworthy during the extension period apparently

I think they mean when they say "roadworthy" only something dangerous that can be seen on a roadside check/layman could check. If the tyres are bald, brakes don't work/are grinding, bodywork is hanging off, car is crabbing excessively then sure, but if all that's fine then it's roadworthy for all practical purposes.

You are far more likely to die of Coronavirus than due to a fatal crash caused by a mechanical failure not being picked up by a delayed dealer service and/or MOT, hence the pragmatic extension.

And of course with everybody on lockdown, most cars will be hardly be on the road anyway.

I presume you can tax an MOT exempt car without an MOT, so as they're calling this a "6 month MOT exemption" i assume you will be able to tax it without an MOT because it will be temporarily exempt. Whether they update the systems in time is another matter.

You can't tax your car without an MOT, so unless they've taken that into account on the car tax system....

Forgot that bit, hopefully they will take that into account online

No mention of taxing your car after the 30/03/2020, further down the page says you need to up date your mot to tax, very contradicting

Yes, but your MOT will be up to date because they are extending the expiry date by six months.

Good point, hopefully DVLA will up date their system.
Don't think I have any cars needing taxing during the 6 month period, 2 mots though...No 3
