Dewalt is owned by Black and Decker these days and quality has dropped significantly

There are battery adapter plates on ebay... so you can use the adapter to use a bosch battery on a dewalt etc...
I had a 18v nicad angle grinder.. battery gave up years ago.
Got a 10m long piece of flex and put each end onto the grinder and jammed the battery back in to hold in in place.
Now use it on the boats 12v system . Weird thing is is seems just as fast on 12v as it ever did on 18v !

Makes me wonder if the little (by comparison) 18v battery voltage dropped under load.
But a 10m length of flex should see some volt drop too.

A grinder isnt used for prolonged periods of time so i cant see it really matters, especially when the other option is a hacksaw :)

Agreed; if the 12v system can deliver a higher current, and yes, there will be a voltage drop in 10m flex, but may not be much.

I had 2x 5Ah (Chinese for Ryobi) batteries delivered this morning.
I have some use for the grinder so should get longer use and swap out prior to the batteries being flattened as much.

The little Ryobi charger (BCL14183H) won't attempt to charge either. The P117 charger I bought for £19+ is doing the job ok though.

Just found that the Ryobi ive inherited from my brother has a 12v elec start - battery is a 1215BPH which doesn’t appear to be available.

(There is a 1215BPP but it says not compatible).

Looking to buy a ni-cad battery pack and solder them in myself, - any recommended suppliers you guys have found?

There's a chap who sells batteries at radio rallies (sadly he doesn't sell on line) who says that hybrid cells are the best. They cost more, but they don't have the memory problems of NiCd, and he says the torque is much better.
