Hi everyone,
I'm completely new to this forum and would appreciate some advice.
I'm looking at a Mercedes Vito 109cdi 2005 compact (with 56,000 on the clock) to convert into a kind of camper (I'm dreaming of European touring) but want to make a wise decision.
Do you have any advice about problems with this (or other Vito's) that I should look out for before handing over cash?
Should I really be looking for one specific model/year that stands out above the rest?
I guess this engine has adequate power (I won't be overloading)? What about fuel economy? (I hear certain Vito's can be less efficient than Mercedes advertise).
Any predictable/known problems at any stages of use?
Will this be a drivechain model and which other Vito models have a chain (preferable I believe) rather than the belt?
The vehicle I'm looking at has new brake pads and discs all around and the one lady owner ('perhaps'!) says the bodywork is great.
Basically any advice will be greatly appreciated. I haven't owned a Merc since I had a well worn 230e out in Cape Town about a decade ago. I loved that car until it just became too much to maintain.
Anyway.... any advice from anyone who knows the Vito will be most welcome.
Thanks,
Ray.
