CLK AMG
Hey Guys

I have decided to add AMG to my collection of cars (currently own 2016 S3)

CLK 280/320/55 AMG (2002-2005)

Is there anything I should particular be looking out with faults?

CLK55 AMG (W209)
Crankshaft position sensor
Engine mounts on these good or bad as E55 (W210) are notorious for leaks

Any advice will be appreciated - anyone is selling love to have see what for sale too

Many on ebay or autotrader but covid is restricting seeing them so buying is a gamble

Thanks :)

Viewing cars is no longer an issue. Social distancing obviously required. Good luck in your quest.

Welcome to the forum. The CLK55 AMG is the only AMG on your list so I would buy that one. Great cars with solid engines and gearboxes. Just make sure you check everything electrical works. Are you interested in a coupe of convertible.

Hi and welcome,

As above, not all Mercedes with an AMG badge are AMG’s.

Check for service’s history, test everything electrical and general maintenance and upkeep of them as with all nice motors.

Good luck in your search and a nice choice of vehicle.

just to be monotonous and add there is only 1 x AMG on the list (AMG only have 2 numbers i.e.55 in this case)- cracking cars!

Hi and welcome to the forum. As stated there are very many more AMG badges out there than there are thoroughbred AMG cars so don't be misled :)

As above:
CLK280 AMG - no such thing.
CLK320 AMG - no such thing
CLK55 - a proper AMG and not some badged up base spec car pretending to be something it isn't.

Not heard of any issues with engine mounts in 210s - uses same mount for all petrol V engines or 230s (same again I believe) though we did change one at 100k miles which I wouldn't say is unacceptable.

A CLK55 or CL55 are the only coupe's in AMG guise.
I would also look at the CLK just to avoid any lurking ABC suspension problems in the CL.

Do you have a budget in mind?

Four or five owners in 17 years is hardly a lot.
Not even sure you'll get a 55 for that budget with that mileage.

£4-6k for a CLK 55 AMG is on the low side. If you do find something at that price point it will without a doubt need more money spending. Probably quite a lot more. Please don’t think I’m trying to put you off, I am an AMG lover myself, just be aware of what you might be getting yourself into

That is exactly what I am thinking - there is one for sale

https://www.wheelerschippingnorton....benz-clk-clk-55-amg-for-sale-car-sales-u5782/

2003
Mercedes CLK 55 AMG
12 STAMPS + box of paperwork
116k

But like you said - unsure about his history - and don't want it stuck in garage most of the time.

Looking at the MoT history that car has some rusty brake pipes for starters.
