Pleased things turned out ok always better to see the car in the flesh so as to speak. Your pictures show the car off better than the sellers. Good luck with it and do post your thoughts on ownership

Thank you everyone. I’m very excited!
The shooting brake is such a gorgeous design and teamed with the whisper quiet V6 it’s my perfect car. Now I’ve seen it in person I think I prefer the colour combo to what I originally wanted, Cavansite blue with cream leather.
This is certainly more practical inside. I just hope I can keep the Obsidian looking good with a few layers of Collinite.

I’m late to the party , but lovely car and good interior colour choice as well . I think with shiny black you are now in the realm of snow foam, two bucket wash with micro fibre mit and good quality micro fibre drying cloths .
I’m not sure if a ceramic coating will protect your black paintwork from poor car wash practice (swirl marks) , maybe someone can confirm this ?
I would guess if you have paid for a ceramic coat then you will already be up on swirl mark avoidance :D

A good ceramic coating should help avoid swirls. Some are so hard once cured that mistakes in the coating are a nightmare remove.

I would have it properly valeted inc machine polishing if needed then go from there. Sonax will also be good to keep the dirt running off

I had Obsidian Black on my W211, polished it once every 6 months with AG products, the ceramic paint really held the polish well. It did require very regular washing but it really looked beautiful when clean

Yes, my intention is to get a valeter in ASAP, get the paint corrected, mopped and polished then discuss coating options.
There are a few stone chips that will get filled at the dealer but not levelled but they will be dealt with during the valet unless they put huge blobs on!
I rarely get stone chips as I tend to keep a respectable distance from the car in front.
It’s all very exciting ( until I have to fork out the mazuma next Thursday when I collect.

Congratulations Stuart, lovely car!
OK, back to black....(no I'm not Amy Winehouse), you will slave but as you've suggested- paint correction, detail, ceramic/get your detailer to show you how/give you the top up products.
I use Gyeon MOHS as the ceramic, and Gyeon Bathe/Bathe + as the tops ups with Q2M wet coat every couple of months- this regime makes most of the dust and fall out drop off....

You can always earn more money :p

(Well that's what I always tell myself - you can justify most purchases that way :D)

Thanks John.
I have a really good base to work on as the car gleams now, so after all the hard work the valet person will do I hope it’ll be fairly easy to keep up. thanks for the suggestion. I used Collinite on the SL and always had lots of compliments on it. There was another spray thingy I still have in the “cupboard of doom” somewhere that brought out the shine very well so I’ll hunt that out when I can gird my loins to open the cupboard door :D

Bizarrely, there have been two airmatic equipped cars to come on to Autotrader this week - but both had black leather :(
This one, the seller couldn't be bothered to clean it properly for the photos - and who prices a car with an odd £8? Oh, of course, Webuyanycar... https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202006250502365?radius=1500&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&body-type=Estate&minimum-badge-engine-size=3.0&model=CLS&sort=datedesc&postcode=tn23pe&advertising-location=at_cars&maximum-mileage=50000&make=MERCEDES-BENZ&page=1

What a way to present a car for sale  That just reflects the kind of care the car has had whilst in his custody. I would give that one a very wide berth despite it being a nice spec.

The ad only says self levelling rear suspension unless I’ve missed something.
The ad says SLS but the pictures do show the full airmatic switch on the gearbox tunnel, it’s one reason I don’t look at their specs listed and good off what I can see in the pictures

Doh! I didn’t think to look there!
I wonder how many I missed in my searching
Luckily I’m more than happy with my choice and can’t wait until I pick it up on Thursday 2/7 :D

I always look for the switch - as you say, the specs listed in the advert are usually rubbish.

Weird isn’t it? You’d have thought they’d make more effort trying to sell a £20K+ car!
Some folks don’t earn that in a year, me included!
