Hi all, a local dealer ship has a 2913 E 250 AMG for sale, and I'm tempted to upgrade, The present E200 W212 is running sweet as an nut, and I really don't have mechanical ( or other ) reason to change. There is 105'000 miles on the clock, and its an estate, upholstery etc is in perfect condition ( unlike the artico covering on the drivers seat...). So what should I watch out for or beware of??? Good / bad points relative to the present E class?. Also, I will have to transfer the towbar from the present E200 to the new one, and as its an estate, are they interchangeable, has any one any idea?
Thanks for your advice.:)

I'm guessing it's a om651 engine, time chain on start up. Listen hard before parting with cash.

It was first registered in the first 6 mths of 2013, but until I go to the dealership I wont have any more info. ( I'm going by the advertisement presently, and hereunder is what it says:- )

Immaculate example, very rare car in this spec.
- Xenon headlights
- 19" AMG alloy wheels
- Bluetooth
- Leather interior / Suede
- Cruise control
- Multi function steering wheel
- Heated seats
- Dealer warranty
- 111K Miles

Now of course, I have just seen that the AMG refers to the wheels, so its possible that it's not an AMG veh at all?

Well it won’t be an AMG with an OM651 250 CDI engine at all, and I don’t think the AMG Line (trim level) was offered with suede as a choice, for me it was plain or nappa leather only.

That looks like Artico plastic leather.
Absolutely nothing special or rare about the spec.
I’m guessing it’s not a Mercedes dealership. If it isn’t the warranty isn’t likely to be worth much either.

No, its not a MB Dealership. But it's where I bought my first ( and present ) 2010 E class. And they got it sorted when I took it back with a brakes problem, no quibble. And whats on the Ad re. rare ( or not ) may be just a sales gimmick. I doubt that the seats are covered in Artico? Looks to me more like a different fabric..but I'm not sure what, I'll go and see it up close and personal next week, and then I'll run a VIN check on it also, That will tell the tale, regardless of the sales ad.

No...strange as it may seem, Its better for me if its NOT AMG spec,,,we have a very active insurance cartel operating in Ireland....and anything ( and I mean ANYTHING,) above and beyond basic specs, is like a magnet for them....I had an A6 one time, and the insurance went from €320 to €1175,,,,why, you may well ask ( as I did ) and the answer was "Its the Sports model"... for a 1.9 TDI engine???..So if I really like the car, whether its genuine AMG or not, then I'll buy it. But if its not an AMG... no problem.

Well, on the tailgate, it's badged E250...CDI, so I guess that rules out anything other than the OM651 engine?? How different would a genuine AMG 250 engine be? What designation nrs would it have? I've only seen this car on the advertisement, but next week, will pay them a visit, and then, hopefully everything will be revealed. I was just asking what I should be looking out for.

AMG don’t make Diesel engines so there is only ever “AMG Line” in an E250, which is just trim and wheels.
As you’ve mentioned above insewerance companies love to load premiums, it will be well worth checking with them first.

There is no such thing as a diesel AMG nor an AMG (AFAIK) with 3 numbers (e.g. 250). The current E class AMGs are E53 & E63S.

The car is an "AMG Line" - couple of AMG carpets, maybe AMG alloys and some trim etc depending on the car......

Jim if you like the car that’s all that matters, it’s got fck all to do with anyone else, enjoy.
Sure, when get to see it and if it check's out, then I'll go for it. the present E200 is my first foray into the wonderfull world of Mercedes, and basically, it was a blind leap of faith which so far has been justified. And now a possible replacement has appeared. ( I was not looking to replace the present one,,,,,,but then I saw this on on offer, and I'm tempted. ) All of the members who replied to my query, I've interacted with them all previously, and i've all ways found their advice to be good. They know a lot more about MB then I do, and if I can get some pointer's, what to watch out etc. that will be good. I'd appreciate any comment's from you too mancman, if you have had a bad / good experience with the E250's.

Yes, and if it was / is an AMG, it would be badged "AMG" too? So the fact that the Ad say's "AMG" wheels, would not make it an "AMG".....Merc in AMG clothing... LOL :) But will be useful when and if the time comes to make a deal. And as for the insurance, I checked with them yesterday evening, and surprise, surprise,,,no change from my E200 !!! So on reflection, this reinforces the fact that it's NOT an AMG.....because if it had been, I'm pretty sure that the insurance would have been increased.

Yes I understand that Rory,,,the AMG refers to a higher level of trim ( They have to do something to make an"executive" class car even more " executive") Who wants to be "special" when you can be "extra special" kind of thing. Not to mention premium prices.... But does the AMG tag bring any mechanical changes? Better brakes, infotainment, etc?

I have the same car but a coupe, things that has gone wrong on mine but doesn't necessarily mean that It would go wrong on yours,
Third brake light wiring split
Sheered bolt on the inlet manifold
Exhaust temp sensors replaced
Differential pressure sensor replaced

Check the for timing chain rattle on start up.

Apparently electric injector failure is common on the 250CDI models but I have had no experience with that.
