Drove 300 miles to sunny North Wales , stopped in Snowdonia on the way up for a quick 2 hour walk in the hills . Stopped and swam in the Llyn (lake ) below Pen yr ole wen .
When I say swam I mean screamed and got out again before I died , but it was still a total immersion which still counts

Once upon a time the offshore training school in Aberdeen decided they should drop the temperature in their training wave pool to 5C so it was more realistic to the conditions you'd encounter if you had to jump overboard from your rig. 3 cold shock induced heart attacks and 1 death later they changed their mind and heated the water back up again (thankfully before I got there for my 2 yearly refresher training!!)

I must admit I had put a pair of baggy walking shorts with the option to swim in them , but at the last minute I went birthday suit  . Kept the shorts dry , safety first

From the sound of it a wet suit or survival suit would have been a better option - keeps the shorts dry, but more important keeps other important bits from the effects of cold shock (so you don't become "introverted"!!)

Yeah. RGIT. I decided early on that RGIT were far too keen on experimental torture. After my first in 82 I decided Fleetwood was friendly.
2015 in Baku was different. During the pool sessions the cleaners were moving us out of the way to mop up.
Then on fire training cleaners were sweeping up the powder - as we were extinguishing fires!
My last one 2019 was in Ghana! A much more laid back affair - don't think I'll do anymore..

.
My wife and I looked at it, and pretty much decided to sell it - never thought I would let this car go, considering all the upgrades and mods, etc ...

Always found doing the RGIT with the rebreather was more difficult. I remember the first time that I popped the valve after I blew the contents of my lungs out and then had no air for the capsize and escape bit.

Got a call from the local dealer that they have done a vehicle health check and that all 4 tyres are perishing.
Allegedly they are still legal.
What would the quietest tyres be for a shooting brake with 19" wheels? It has Pirellis on at the moment and I find them really noisy on anything other than a glass smooth tarmac. (Perhaps it the fact they are perishing making them noisy?)
I suspect the car has been standing for a while. It missed it's first MOT by almost a year and wasn't serviced at all in 2019 which leads me to suspect it's been sat somewhere on SORN.
Does anyone know if I can find out if it has been on a SORN?

That is odd, I was told that my 2x front Pirelli 19" were also perished but legal (I will find out as about to be MOTd. My car has been in use although it does sometimes stand for 4 or 5 days.

We did have a heatwave earlier this year so maybe it is that or an inherent issue with Pirelli?

I will move away from Pirelli, Michelin I hear are pretty good...

Agreed! I've never liked Pirelli. Many years ago they came out to examine a new set I put on my Rover 3500 Vitesse and ended up replacing them all!
A completely different car but I put 4 Michelin All weather on my friends VW Up for her and they are great tyres and suit the car well. I think the trouble with trying to find them for mine with it's 30mm sidewall might be difficult though. At least I have time...
